The Alzheimer's Association participates in the Neurology Conference in Al-Ula with an innovative approach

In a move reflecting the qualitative development in health awareness methods in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Saudi Alzheimer's Disease Association actively in the fourth annual conference of the Saudi Association for Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology. The historic city of Al-Ula this important medical event from February 5th to 7th, 2026, with the attendance of leading experts and specialists in the fields of brain health and neuroscience.

The strategic and scientific importance of the conference

This participation is particularly important given the growing global and local interest in age-related diseases and brain health. The conference serves as a vital platform for exchanging expertise on the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of cognitive disorders. Accordingly, the association has aligned its objectives with the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 , specifically the Quality of Life Program and the National Transformation Program, striving to empower a society aware of Alzheimer's disease, not only from a medical perspective but also from psychological and social ones.

Psychological support for caregivers: a fundamental pillar

On the scientific front, the association presented a specialized paper highlighting an often-overlooked aspect of treatment plans: the mental health of caregivers. The paper was presented by Her Excellency Professor Munira Al-Hathlool, Senior Psychologist (Therapeutic and Rehabilitation) at King Abdulaziz Medical City. Titled "The Psychological Needs of Caregivers and the Role of Psychological Support in Promoting Mental Health," the paper reviewed the significant challenges faced by patients' families and the importance of providing them with a psychological safety net to ensure the continuity of high-quality care.

Conceptual art: A human language for raising awareness

In an innovative approach that breaks with the traditional format of medical conferences, the association organized an interactive art exhibition on the sidelines of the conference, linking the issue of Alzheimer's with contemporary art. This approach aims to appeal to human emotions and create a sense of deep empathy for patients.

In her closing remarks, Her Highness Princess Madawi bint Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Abdulrahman, Chair of the Board of Directors of the Association, stated that the participation included installation art pieces that transported visitors into the world of an Alzheimer's patient. These works included:

  • The Hope sculpture and the new Light sculpture: to represent holding on to life despite the difficulties.
  • Hands on Memory sculpture: embodies solidarity and support.
  • The paintings “I Need You”, “What Remains of Memory”, and “Fading Away” are visual works that reflect the painful gradual loss of memory and its impact on identity.

This sensory and visual experience allowed doctors and visitors to understand the disease from a purely human perspective, going beyond clinical diagnosis to touch upon the feelings of isolation and need experienced by the patient.

Corporate partnerships and integration

Princess Madawi concluded her remarks by emphasizing the importance of strategic partnerships between the charitable sector and the health and academic sectors. She expressed her gratitude to the Saudi Neurological Society, the Saudi Society for Cognitive and Behavioral Neurology, and Alzheimer's Disease International. She also commended the efforts of the participating artists (Iklil Al-Faris, Muath Al-Awfi, Noura Bin Saeedan, Fahad Al-Qathami, and Abdulmalik Khanji) who dedicated their art and creativity to serving this humanitarian cause.
