Temperatures in Saudi Arabia: Al-Ahsa records 44 degrees Celsius

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued its daily report on maximum temperatures recorded in various cities and provinces across the Kingdom. The data indicated that the heat wave affecting large parts of the country continues. Four regions recorded the highest temperature of 44 degrees Celsius: Al-Ahsa, Wadi Al-Dawasir, the Ad-Dahna Desert, and As-Summan, making them the hottest areas in the Kingdom today.

The climatic and geographical context of rising temperatures in Saudi Arabia

This rise in temperatures is within the natural climatic context of Saudi Arabia, which is characterized by a hot and dry desert climate in most of its regions, especially with the onset of summer. The Kingdom is located in a geographical area directly affected by hot air masses coming from the surrounding deserts, and the Tropic of Cancer passes through its territory, increasing the intensity of sunlight during the summer months. Regions such as Al-Ahsa, the Ad-Dahna Desert, and the Empty Quarter are among the hottest places in the world, due to their geographical nature which traps heat and raises it to record levels.

Expected effects and the importance of monitoring weather forecasts

Such heat waves have direct impacts on various aspects of life. Locally, electricity consumption increases significantly due to the heavy reliance on air conditioning and cooling systems in homes and businesses. Health authorities, such as the Ministry of Health and Civil Defense, issue continuous warnings to citizens and residents to take precautions, avoid direct sun exposure during peak hours (from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM), and drink plenty of fluids to prevent heatstroke and heat exhaustion. Regionally, these phenomena are part of a broader climatic pattern affecting the Gulf region and the Middle East, while international experts link them to global climate change, which is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events.
