Saudi Arabia rejects parallel entities and supports the unity of Somalia

As part of ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen joint Arab action and protect the national security of Arab states, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has renewed its firm and supportive stance towards the Federal Republic of Somalia, stressing the need to preserve its sovereignty and territorial integrity in the face of current challenges.

This came during an important meeting held today at the headquarters of the Kingdom's delegation, where the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Matar, received his counterpart, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Somalia to the Arab Republic of Egypt and its Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, Ambassador Ali Abdi Awari. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and discuss pressing issues of concern to the two brotherly countries.

The meeting focused primarily on reaffirming Somalia's sovereignty and territorial integrity. The Saudi side emphasized its complete rejection of any attempts to impose parallel entities or create a political reality that undermines the unity of the Somali state. This position aligns with the Kingdom's foreign policy, which consistently calls for respecting the sovereignty of states, non-interference in their internal affairs, and working towards stability in the Horn of Africa, a region of strategic importance to Arab security.

This statement is particularly significant given the delicate regional circumstances in the Horn of Africa, where Somalia faces numerous challenges related to maintaining its internal cohesion and countering external interference that could threaten its stability. The Saudi position reflects a broader Arab commitment, under the auspices of the League of Arab States, to supporting the Somali Federal Government in its efforts to extend its control over all national territory, combat terrorism, and strengthen state institutions.

Historically, Saudi Arabia has played a pivotal role in supporting Somalia during various crises, whether through political support in international forums or through humanitarian and development aid. This renewed Saudi stance is interpreted as a message of reassurance to the Somali side and a firm message to any parties that might seek to destabilize the region, affirming that Somalia's security and unity are an integral part of Arab national security.

The meeting concluded with a discussion of a number of topics of common interest, and an examination of mechanisms for ongoing coordination and consultation under the umbrella of the League of Arab States, in a way that serves the interests of the two brotherly peoples and enhances the opportunities for peace and development in the region.
