The Saudi Red Crescent's plan for the Hajj season: Full readiness
Exceptional preparations to serve the guests of God
The Saudi Red Crescent Authority announced its full operational readiness to implement its comprehensive plan for this year's Hajj season (1447 AH). These preparations reflect the wise leadership's commitment to providing the highest levels of medical care and attention to pilgrims through a fully integrated, 24/7 ambulance system. The Authority's plan relies on highly qualified personnel, supported by the latest medical and ambulance technologies, ensuring a wide and well-planned field deployment covering all holy sites, Mecca, and the vital roads leading to them. This aims to enhance response times and improve the efficiency of handling all emergencies that pilgrims may encounter.
The historical context of the Kingdom's efforts in providing healthcare for pilgrims
Historically, since its unification, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance on the health and safety of pilgrims. The establishment of institutional ambulance services in the Kingdom was closely linked to the Hajj season, with the initial provision of emergency medical care primarily aimed at serving those visiting the Holy Mosque. Over the decades, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority has evolved into one of the world's leading institutions in medical crowd management, accumulating extensive experience that has made it an international authority in mass gathering medicine and in managing millions of people in limited geographical areas and specific timeframes.
Figures and statistics reflecting the level of preparedness
To ensure the provision of the best possible emergency medical services, the Saudi Red Crescent Authority has mobilized significant resources for this season. More than 7,700 paramedics, medical personnel, and administrative staff have been deployed, and over 500 ambulance stations have been strategically located in critical areas and densely populated regions. Recognizing the importance of volunteer work, more than 1,000 male and female volunteers are participating in support teams at field locations to provide necessary assistance. Operations have also been bolstered by a large fleet of over 3,000 ambulances and support vehicles equipped with the latest technology.
Strategic landing strips and air ambulance
In a move aimed at reducing response times for critical cases, the authority has allocated 11 air ambulances operating from strategic helipads located in Mecca and the Holy Sites. This rapid air intervention effectively contributes to transporting critically ill patients to specialized hospitals for treatment within the critical timeframe, thus increasing survival and recovery rates, God willing.
The local and international impact of the success of the emergency plan
The success of the Saudi Red Crescent's operational plan is of paramount importance and has a multifaceted impact. Domestically, this success reflects the integration of state institutions and the achievement of the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 in enhancing the quality of services provided to pilgrims. Regionally and internationally, this high level of preparedness sends a reassuring message to millions of Muslims worldwide that their pilgrims are in safe hands, and it underscores the Kingdom's leadership and its exceptional ability to manage the world's largest annual human gathering with efficiency and competence.
Modern technology and institutional integration
The Authority did not neglect the technological aspect, emphasizing the use of the latest applications and technological systems in operations rooms to receive reports, accurately classify cases, and dispatch the nearest ambulance teams. Field readiness was also enhanced with flexible intervention methods such as small vehicles and ambulance motorcycles to handle the high population densities within the Holy Sites. The Authority works in full integration and continuous coordination with various health, service, and security agencies to ensure the provision of ambulance services that meet the leadership's aspirations and fulfill the needs of pilgrims according to the highest international standards.
