Saudi Scouts celebrate their founding day: 3 centuries of glory

Saudi Arabian Scouts Association organized a grand national celebration at its headquarters in Riyadh to commemorate its founding day , which falls on February 22nd each year. The event witnessed a remarkable turnout and enthusiastic participation from the association's staff and members, reflecting the deep national unity and pride in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's long-standing historical roots, spanning more than three centuries.
Recalling the historical depth of the Saudi state
The ceremony included a series of speeches and presentations highlighting the historical and political significance of this momentous day. Commissioners from various branches of the association took turns delivering speeches that reviewed key milestones in the history of the Saudi state, beginning with the founding of the first Saudi state by Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1139 AH (1727 CE), with its capital in Diriyah.
The speakers emphasized that celebrating the founding day is not just a passing memory, but rather a recollection of a story of struggle and construction, in which the Arabian Peninsula moved from a state of division and dispersion to a stage of unity, stability and security, which paved the way for the establishment of a civilized state with regional and international influence.
Scouting values and national identity
As part of linking scouting values with national principles, the celebration included documentary presentations that traced the history of the scouting movement in the Kingdom and how it has kept pace with the nation's development. The presentations highlighted the pivotal role of scouting in serving the community and fostering national responsibility among young people, emphasizing that volunteer work and scouting are an extension of the values of giving instilled by the founding fathers.
Through these activities, the Saudi Scouts seek to promote the concept of good citizenship, as scouting is a school for instilling discipline, loyalty, and service to others, which are the same values upon which the pillars of the Saudi state have been built since its inception.
Strengthening a sense of belonging among younger generations
The association's secretariat explained that the ultimate goal of commemorating this occasion is to connect new generations with their rich history and to raise awareness among young people about the sacrifices made for the advancement of this nation. The association operates according to a strategic plan aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places great importance on strengthening national identity and cultural heritage.
Through these activities, the association aims to transform feelings of pride and honor into practical actions that include active participation in community development, preserving national achievements, and following the leaders’ approach to building and development.
A comprehensive communication plan to introduce history
The association concluded its celebration by emphasizing its continued awareness efforts through a comprehensive communication plan. This plan focuses on highlighting the Kingdom's civilizational and cultural dimensions and introducing young people to the stages of Saudi Arabia's development throughout its three historical periods. This stems from the Saudi Scouts' belief that historical knowledge is the cornerstone of building a bright future, and that pride in one's identity is the primary driver of creativity and excellence in various local and international arenas.
