The Saudi tent at the Islamic University: Heritage events on the founding day

The city of Medina witnessed a remarkable cultural and heritage movement coinciding with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's celebrations of its National Day. The "Saudi Tent" events and the accompanying historical exhibition, organized by the Islamic University, attracted large crowds of residents, visitors, and students from various nationalities. These events serve to embody the deep historical and cultural heritage of the Saudi state, spanning more than three centuries.
A journey through three centuries of glory
The events were not merely a fleeting celebration, but rather a significant educational and informative platform. The historical exhibition held as part of the festivities presented a detailed documentary account of the Saudi state's journey from its founding by Imam Muhammad bin Saud in 1139 AH (1727 CE), through the Second Saudi State, to the present era of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Through its specialized sections, the exhibition showcased major cultural transformations and the foundational principles upon which the state was built, enabling visitors to grasp the magnitude of the sacrifices and acts of heroism undertaken by the imams and kings to establish security and stability in the Arabian Peninsula.
Heritage corners that mimic the lives of our ancestors
In an atmosphere steeped in history, visitors strolled through the corridors of the "Saudi Tent," designed to reflect details of traditional social life. Attendees enthusiastically engaged with the various exhibits, which included:
- The “Our Dress Since the Day We Started” corner showcased traditional costumes from various regions of the Kingdom, highlighting the cultural diversity in clothing.
- The “We Ate the Day We Started” corner: which offered a tasting experience of Saudi hospitality and popular dishes that were associated with the Saudi table in the past.
- The Handicrafts and Arabic Calligraphy Corner: where visitors witnessed the skills of craftsmen and the creations of calligraphers that reflect the Arab visual identity.
- The Storyteller's Corner: which had a wide impact, as it narrated inspiring stories from the national memory, linking new generations to their rich history.
A cultural bridge to globalization
These events are particularly significant as they take place within the Islamic University, which hosts students from over 170 countries worldwide. These activities play a pivotal role in introducing international students to Saudi identity and the Kingdom's rich history, thus empowering them to become ambassadors of this culture upon their return home. The international students' engagement and enthusiasm for learning about Saudi folklore were evident, reinforcing the values of tolerance and cultural exchange that the Kingdom strives to cultivate.
Visiting times and accompanying events
The events will continue to welcome visitors at the university campus until February 26th, with daily opening hours from 10:00 PM to midnight. The daily program includes cultural competitions, visual presentations, and patriotic poems, all part of the university's efforts to promote national pride and highlight authentic Saudi identity on this special occasion.
