The National Center for Meteorology issues a red alert regarding the Najran rains

Citizens and residents of Saudi Arabia are closely following the ongoing weather updates, with the National Center for Meteorology a vital role in ensuring everyone's safety by issuing accurate alerts. In this context, the center issued important and urgent warnings today regarding significant weather fluctuations affecting various regions of the Kingdom, particularly in the southern and northern regions.

Red alert: Heavy rains and flash floods in the Najran region

The National Center for Meteorology has raised the alert level to "red alert" for the Najran region, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by severe weather phenomena. This weather system includes the city of Najran as well as several of its surrounding governorates: Badr Al-Janoub, Thar, Habuna, Khubash, and Yadma.

The report issued by the center explained that these heavy rains will be accompanied by high-speed winds leading to near-zero horizontal visibility, as well as hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, and strong thunderstorms. The center indicated that this severe weather condition will continue, God willing, until 11:00 PM this evening.

Geographical context and the impact of rainfall on the southern region

The Najran region and the southern areas of Saudi Arabia are characterized by their mountainous terrain and deep valleys, making heavy rainfall an event requiring the utmost caution. Historically, these areas experience seasonal weather fluctuations that lead to flash floods, which can pose a threat to life and property if safety instructions are not followed. The General Directorate of Civil Defense, in conjunction with weather warnings, consistently emphasizes the necessity of staying away from valleys and flood channels and avoiding crossing them during rainfall, highlighting the importance of these early warnings in crisis management and mitigating local risks.

Fog and reduced visibility in Al-Jawf region

On the other side of the Kingdom, specifically in the northern region, the National Center for Meteorology warned of a light fog wave affecting the Al-Jawf region. This includes the city of Sakaka and the governorates of Dumat Al-Jandal, Al-Qurayyat, and Tabuk.

The center's detailed report predicted that this weather system would reduce horizontal visibility to between 3 and 5 kilometers. This weather condition is expected to persist until 8:00 AM tomorrow, Monday, requiring drivers and highway users to exercise extreme caution, reduce speed, and use fog lights to ensure road safety.

The importance of the early warning system in the Kingdom

These simultaneous warnings are part of the extensive efforts undertaken by the National Center of Meteorology through its Early Warning System, a cornerstone of national efforts to protect society from natural disasters. Providing accurate and up-to-date weather information not only safeguards individuals but also supports vital sectors such as transportation, education, and agriculture in making informed decisions. These efforts align with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to enhance the quality of life and provide a safe and sustainable environment for all residents of the Kingdom. Everyone is advised to follow the Center's official channels for the latest updates and to avoid spreading rumors.
