Jeddah Municipality shuts down a bakery in Dhahban and destroys spoiled food
As part of its ongoing efforts to enhance municipal oversight and protect public health, the inspection teams of the Jeddah Governorate Municipality, represented by the Dhahban Sub-Municipality, seized an unlicensed bakery operating within an unauthorized yard within the sub-municipality's jurisdiction. This operation resulted in the immediate closure of the site and the destruction of large quantities of food unfit for human consumption.
Details of the seizure and observed violations
The head of the Dhahban sub-municipality, Abdullah Mubarak, explained that intensive field inspections led to the discovery of an unlicensed bakery operating without the necessary permits. The raid uncovered a number of serious violations, most notably the employment of undocumented workers lacking health certificates proving they were free of contagious diseases, in addition to the extremely poor hygiene at the site, which failed to meet even the most basic health standards.
The municipality confiscated and destroyed all the seized quantities, amounting to 102 kilograms of food and preparation supplies that showed signs of damage and spoilage, while applying strict regulatory procedures against those in charge of this unregulated factory.
Context and importance of monitoring campaigns
This operation is part of the Jeddah Municipality's comprehensive strategy to combat negative phenomena and improve the urban landscape within residential neighborhoods and along main roads. These campaigns are an integral part of national efforts to achieve quality of life goals, as municipalities across Saudi Arabia strive to eliminate haphazard commercial activities that mar the city's appearance and threaten public safety.
These efforts are of paramount importance due to their direct impact on public health; unregulated factories operating away from the eyes of oversight are often a breeding ground for bacteria and the use of raw materials of unknown origin or expired, posing a real risk that could lead to widespread food poisoning.
Economic and social impact
Beyond the health aspect, these campaigns contribute to protecting the local economy by promoting fair competition. The presence of unlicensed establishments that evade fees and regulations harms legitimate investors who adhere to all standards. Therefore, closing down such dens of iniquity strengthens consumer confidence in the local market and ensures the availability of safe and wholesome food products for citizens and residents.
The municipality concluded its statement by emphasizing the continuation and intensification of its inspection tours of all commercial establishments and activities, calling on residents to cooperate and report any municipal violations through official channels, to ensure a healthy and safe environment for everyone in Jeddah Governorate.
