Dozens of firefighters rushed to extinguish the blaze at the plant, located in the western Russian industrial city of Nizhnekamsk.

“Two people died in the incident at the Nizhnekamsk Neftekhim plant, and eight were hospitalized,” Sibur said in a social media post.
“The fire, caused by an equipment malfunction, has been contained.” She added that “64 other people received treatment for minor injuries.”
Sibur confirmed that there were no hazardous emissions posing a threat to public health and that air quality monitoring continues.

The mayor of Nizhnekamsk, Radmir Belyaev, said the explosion shattered windows in some buildings in the city.
Unverified videos circulating on social media showed a massive plume of thick black smoke rising from the factory, with a fireball visible at its base.
The local branch of the Russian Investigative Committee, which handles major crimes, has launched an investigation to determine any violations of industrial safety regulations.
Nizhnekamsk Neftekhim is Russia's largest rubber and plastics manufacturing plant, supplying a wide range of industries, from automobiles and construction to pharmaceuticals and agriculture.
