In a move reflecting the deep social cohesion and spirituality of the holy month, Umm Al-Qura University, represented by its Volunteer Work Department, organized the "Kal-Ghaith" volunteer initiative. This initiative aimed to distribute 900 iftar meals to needy families in the neighborhoods of Makkah. The initiative was undertaken in cooperation and partnership with the "Joy of Youth" group, as part of a series of activities designed to promote social responsibility and strengthen the values of human solidarity among the residents of Makkah.

Launch of the initiative and support from university leaders

The Vice Rector for Business Development and Community Partnership, Professor Dr. Warda Al-Asmari, inaugurated these charitable convoys, emphasizing that this initiative comes under the direct supervision of the university's Volunteer Work Department. Dr. Al-Asmari affirmed the university's ongoing commitment to providing high-quality services that extend beyond the academic sphere to address the actual needs of the community in the Holy City, especially during seasons of charity and compassion.

Keeping pace with the Kingdom's Vision 2030 in volunteer work

The “Kalghith” initiative cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader national context; it aligns with the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 , which has established volunteer work as a cornerstone, aiming to reach one million volunteers. Saudi universities, particularly Umm Al-Qura University, play a pivotal role in this transformation by institutionalizing volunteer work and shifting it from scattered individual efforts to organized, impactful institutional action. Engaging students in such field activities refines their character and strengthens their sense of belonging and patriotism.

Highest quality standards in the Holy City

The initiative witnessed remarkable organizational effort, with volunteers working together to prepare and package meals according to the highest standards of quality and food safety, before transporting them via designated buses to the targeted distribution points. The participation of 900 volunteers in this humanitarian endeavor embodied the spirit of giving that characterizes the university community. The team successfully delivered the meals to those in need well before sunset, in a scene reflecting the highest values of Ramadan compassion in the holiest of places.

Strategic partnerships and cultural dimensions

The effective partnership with the "Joy of Youth" group contributed to the successful and highly precise organization of the field trips, ensuring smooth operations and rapid response. The initiative was not limited to relief and humanitarian efforts; it concluded with an enriching tour for participants of the university's cultural center, aiming to connect fieldwork with the intellectual and cultural depth embraced by this prestigious academic institution, thus reinforcing the concept of intellectual and cultural volunteering alongside charitable volunteering.
