
Municipalities: 41,000 inspection tours in Mecca and Medina during the first 25 days of Ramadan
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing revealed that the municipalities in Makkah and Madinah carried out 41,395 inspection tours and visits during the period from 1 to 25 Ramadan 1447 AH, as part of its ongoing efforts to enhance health and municipal control, ensure the safety of food and commercial activities, and raise the level of compliance with municipal requirements in Makkah and Madinah, which witness an increasing density of pilgrims and visitors during the holy month of Ramadan .
The ministry explained that the Holy Capital Municipality carried out 36,324 inspection tours during the same period, including 19,103 health inspection tours of food and health establishments, and 17,221 tours of market inspections, as part of its efforts to promote food safety, protect public health, and monitor establishments’ compliance with municipal requirements in areas that witness intensive commercial activity during the holy month.
The municipality also dealt with more than 263,000 tons of municipal waste during the same period, as part of the system of cleaning and environmental sanitation services that it implements in various neighborhoods of the Holy Capital and the central areas surrounding the Holy Mosque in Mecca, which contributes to maintaining public cleanliness and improving the urban landscape in the sites that receive large numbers of pilgrims and visitors.
Market oversight
In Madinah, the municipality carried out 5,071 visits and inspection tours, including 2,879 health inspection tours and 2,192 market inspection tours, in addition to examining 1,107 samples of food products to ensure their compliance with health requirements and their safety for consumption.
The Ministry of Municipalities and Housing confirmed that these efforts are part of its operational plans for the Ramadan season in the two holy cities, which aim to enhance food safety, raise the efficiency of field monitoring, and improve the quality of municipal services provided to pilgrims, Umrah performers, and visitors, in line with the large increase in the number of visitors to the two cities during the blessed month.
