Islamic Affairs: 45,000 volunteer opportunities in 2025

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a significant leap in the field of charitable and community work, with official statistics revealing the implementation of 45,927 volunteer opportunities during 2025. These initiatives recorded a substantial economic impact estimated at 324,767,042 Saudi Riyals, reflecting the high efficiency in managing human and volunteer resources.

Numbers reflect the scale of the achievement

In detailing this unprecedented achievement, the Ministry explained that the total number of recorded volunteer hours reached 54,043,697. This success was made possible by a massive contingent of 813,933 volunteers from across the Kingdom. These figures serve as a vital indicator of the widespread community participation and the growing awareness among citizens and residents of the importance of volunteer work and its tangible positive impact on individuals and society.

The context of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 and volunteer work

These figures cannot be viewed in isolation from the broader national context. These efforts are a response to the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which prioritizes volunteer work, aiming to reach one million volunteers annually. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs plays a pivotal role in this endeavor, given its oversight of mosques and prayer halls, which provide fertile and sustainable environments for volunteer opportunities. This contributes to transforming volunteer work from individual initiatives into organized, institutional efforts with a clear developmental and economic impact.

Diverse fields of giving and serving the guests of God

The areas covered by volunteer opportunities were diverse, encompassing various service, organizational, and advocacy aspects, thus allowing different segments of society to participate. Among the most prominent of these areas are:

  • Serving the worshippers: Organizing the movement of entry and exit in major mosques, especially during peak seasons in the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid prayers.
  • Taking care of mosques: Active participation in cleaning and perfuming the houses of God, distributing copies of the Quran, and maintaining the facilities to ensure a reverent environment for worshippers.
  • Hajj and Umrah services: Receiving and seeing off pilgrims through land and air ports and pilgrim cities, and providing promotional gifts.
  • Feeding and watering: Distributing Iftar meals for fasting people, distributing dates and cold drinks, and providing water in the targeted locations.

Economic and social impact

The ministry affirmed that the economic return from these efforts reflects the significant developmental impact of volunteer work and its active role in supporting the national economy by providing operational costs that would otherwise have been borne by the state, replacing them with the efforts and contributions of the nation's citizens. This is in addition to strengthening the values of solidarity and social responsibility, and reinforcing the mosque's role as a beacon of cultural enlightenment that serves and contributes to the development of society.
