Saudi Meteorology: Heavy rain and flash floods expected in most regions tomorrow

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important weather alert for the coming days, indicating that most regions of the Kingdom will be affected by unstable weather conditions. According to the report issued today, thunderstorms of varying intensity are expected, beginning tomorrow, Friday, and continuing until next Sunday. Citizens and residents are advised to take precautions.

Weather details and the most affected areas

The center explained in its detailed report that the rainy weather will be accompanied by several weather phenomena, most notably strong downdrafts that may stir up dust and sand, with wind speeds expected to exceed 60 km/h in some areas. The forecast also includes hail, a high probability of flash floods in valleys and ravines, and a significant increase in sea waves along the coast.

Regarding the geographical distribution of the weather system, the center identified Tabuk, Al-Jawf, the Northern Borders, Hail, Al-Qassim, and Madinah as the regions most likely to experience moderate to heavy rainfall. This system will also affect several governorates, including Neom, Tayma, Haql, Al-Wajh, Umluj, Sakaka, Arar, Rafha, Buraydah, Unayzah, Yanbu, and other governorates and centers within these regions.

Weather forecast for Riyadh, Mecca, and the Eastern Province

The forecast was not limited to the northern, western, and central regions, but extended to include the capital, Riyadh, the Eastern Province, and the Makkah region. The report indicated the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in Riyadh and its surrounding governorates, as well as Hafr Al-Batin, Jubail, Dammam, and Al-Ahsa in the Eastern Province. In the Makkah region, the forecast included the Holy City of Makkah, Jeddah, Rabigh, Khulais, and Al-Jumum.

The climatic context and the importance of adhering to instructions

These weather fluctuations occur during transitional periods in the Kingdom's climate, often characterized by the formation of cumulonimbus clouds and heavy rainfall over short periods, leading to flash floods and overflowing wadis. While such rainfall is vital for vegetation and groundwater, it requires a high level of public awareness to mitigate its potential risks.

In closing, the National Center of Meteorology stressed the importance of following weather forecasts and early warnings, which are continuously updated through the center's website, its official social media accounts, and the "Anwaa" application. It also urged everyone to fully comply with the instructions of the Civil Defense and relevant authorities, and to stay away from floodplains and valleys during rainfall to ensure the safety of lives and property.
