Lulu launches "Swift" express shopping stores in Saudi Arabia

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening its presence in the growing retail sector in Saudi Arabia, Lulu Group International announced the launch of its new brand “Swift”, an innovative convenience store chain designed to meet the needs of fast-paced modern life.

Mr. Yusuff Ali M.A., Chairman of the Lulu Group, officially launched operations via a virtual event, announcing the opening of the first four stores in prime locations. These included two stores at the Al Rabie and Al Khurais metro stations in Riyadh, a flagship store at Aramco Al Ruwaidh, and another at an ADNOC petrol station in Al Ahsa in the Eastern Province.

Background and context of expansion in the Saudi market

This expansion comes at a time when the Saudi retail sector is undergoing a major transformation, driven by the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which aims to diversify the economy and improve quality of life. With the increasing pace of urban life, consumers are increasingly turning to convenient and quick shopping options that save time and effort. Swift stores are responding to this trend by providing a seamless shopping experience in strategic locations frequented by customers daily, such as metro stations, gas stations, airports, and residential and commercial complexes.

The concept of "SWIFT" and its strategic importance

Swift stores offer a carefully curated selection of products to meet everyday needs, from fresh food and ready meals to snacks, baked goods, and beverages. This concept is specifically designed to serve travelers, commuters, office workers, and city dwellers seeking quick and high-quality solutions. In this regard, Mr. Yusuf Ali stated, “Our new express shopping concept is designed to bring speed, convenience, and quality closer to our customers. This idea was first launched in Saudi Arabia, and we look forward to expanding it across the GCC soon.”.

Economic impact and ambitious future plans

This move is not only significant in meeting consumer needs, but also in its positive economic impact. Lulu Group plans to open 100 Swift stores across the Kingdom by 2030, an ambitious goal aligned with the Kingdom's Vision 2030. This substantial investment is expected to create hundreds of jobs for Saudi citizens, support local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and strengthen the retail sector's infrastructure. The launch of Swift in Saudi Arabia also marks the beginning of a broader regional expansion strategy, further solidifying Lulu's position as a major player in the Gulf and global retail markets.
