The Holy Capital Municipality carries out 90,000 environmental sanitation tours

Introduction to the efforts of the Holy Capital Municipality

The Holy Capital Municipality announced significant success in its intensive operational plan to enhance environmental sanitation during March. This success was demonstrated by the specialized field teams carrying out 90,092 inspection and control missions across various neighborhoods and targeted locations within Makkah. These extensive efforts aim to raise health and safety standards and reduce the spread of disease vectors, reflecting the municipality's high level of preparedness and operational efficiency in monitoring vital sites and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for residents and visitors of the Holy Capital.

General context and importance of environmental sanitation in Mecca

Makkah holds an exceptional religious and geographical status, receiving millions of pilgrims and visitors annually from all corners of the globe. This massive influx of people makes public health and environmental sanitation a top priority for the Saudi Arabian government, and these efforts are aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the Quality of Life Program. Maintaining a disease-free environment in Makkah is not merely a local concern; it is a safeguard for regional and international health security, contributing to the prevention of the transboundary transmission of diseases that can spread through large gatherings.

Details of the field plan for combating disease vectors

In its efforts to contain disease-causing agents, the Secretariat intensified its field operations in a systematic and deliberate manner. Direct control operations targeted 43,563 locations. These operations included 18,831 targeted actions to combat mosquito breeding grounds, which are among the most dangerous vectors of diseases such as dengue fever. The work also included treating 1,543 stagnant water sites, which provide a fertile and ideal environment for the proliferation of harmful insects if not addressed promptly and effectively.

Drainage network treatment and rodent control

Efforts were not limited to mosquito control; they extended to infrastructure, with 887 manhole and stormwater drainage system treatments carried out to ensure the smooth flow of water and prevent stagnant water that could cause disease outbreaks. Field operations also included treating 22,615 fly breeding sites in residential areas and public facilities, along with 2,117 specialized rodent control operations in potential breeding grounds, thus strengthening the overall public health protection system.

Rapid response to citizens' reports

The Holy Capital Municipality believes in the importance of community partnership, and periodic reports have demonstrated a rapid and professional response to residents' concerns. Field teams successfully addressed 536 reports received during the same period. This swift response directly contributes to a tangible improvement in the quality of the urban environment and enhances public trust in the municipal services provided.

Local and international impact and sustainability of public health

The Holy Capital Municipality affirmed its commitment to proceeding with the implementation of environmental sanitation programs according to regular schedules and well-considered strategic plans that ensure the sustainability of the achieved results. The Municipality emphasized its full commitment to raising the level of field oversight and improving the quality of municipal services provided, in line with the highest international standards for enhancing public health. Providing a healthy and ideal environment in the holiest of places positively impacts the comfort and tranquility of visitors to the Grand Mosque and highlights the Kingdom's exceptional ability to manage crowds and provide them with the highest levels of health and environmental care.
