The Ministry of Education launches a program to support the discovery and nurturing of talented individuals
In a strategic move aimed at strengthening the family's role in shaping the future of coming generations, an awareness-raising dialogue program for parents has been launched. This program is part of the ongoing efforts of the Regional Center for Talent and Creativity (RCGC) project, under the Ministry of Education. Held in fruitful collaboration with the King Abdulaziz Public Library, this pioneering program primarily seeks to raise families' awareness of their responsibilities and pivotal roles in identifying and nurturing gifted students, thus directly contributing to the development of an innovative generation capable of supporting sustainable development in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
General context and historical interest in talented individuals in the Kingdom
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's interest in discovering and nurturing talented individuals is not a recent phenomenon, but rather an extension of a wise leadership vision that recognized early on that the true wealth of nations lies in the minds of their people. This interest was embodied in the establishment of prestigious national institutions such as the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba), which has brought about a qualitative leap in this field. With the launch of Saudi Vision 2030, the focus on investing in human capital has intensified, as the Vision clearly stipulates the importance of providing an attractive and stimulating environment for talented individuals and developing an educational system that meets their needs and refines their skills to become future leaders and agents of change.
Integration of national and institutional efforts
The awareness program witnessed broad and active participation from leading entities involved in talent and creativity development. Participants included the Ministry of Education, the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (MiSK), the Mawhiba Foundation, the Education and Training Evaluation Commission, Jeddah University, and the Arabian Gulf University. This diverse participation reflects the commitment to integrating national efforts to build a comprehensive and sustainable system for discovering and nurturing talented individuals across all age groups.
The program commenced with an opening address by Dr. Jawaher Al-Yousef, Director of the Regional Center for Talent and Creativity Project at the Ministry of Education. In her address, Dr. Al-Yousef emphasized the Kingdom's leading role in supporting the Sustainable Development Goals, praising the integrated efforts of national institutions to build a comprehensive talent development journey and strengthen the innovation and creativity ecosystem at both the local and regional levels.
Methods of Discovery and Educational Care
The first session of the program focused on equipping parents with methods and tools for the early detection of giftedness. It reviewed leading scientific and international practices for identifying exceptional student abilities and presented practical mechanisms for observing and nurturing these abilities within both home and school environments. The second session addressed the topic of educational and developmental support, highlighting the importance of aligning university studies with students' abilities and potential, as well as the necessity of providing supportive learning environments that contribute to the continuous development of their skills and the refinement of their talents.
Psychological support and the expected impact of the program
The program did not neglect the human aspect, addressing extensively the importance of psychological and social support for gifted students. Emphasis was placed on achieving a healthy balance between academic demands and psychological needs, which boosts students' self-confidence and develops their social skills to cope with challenges. The events concluded with an inspiring presentation by a group of gifted students who shared their personal experiences and success stories, reflecting the profound positive impact of specialized programs on developing national capabilities.
Significance and Expected Impact: Locally, this program empowers Saudi families to become the primary incubators of creativity. Regionally, it strengthens the Regional Center for Talent and Creativity's position as a leading authority in the Middle East. Internationally, the outcomes of this comprehensive support translate into global achievements, as evidenced annually by Saudi students winning prestigious awards at international events such as the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), thus solidifying the Kingdom's position as a knowledge-based and innovative powerhouse on the world stage.
