Launch of the NHC Foundation to promote sustainability and quality of life
In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing the non-profit sector and promoting comprehensive sustainability, His Excellency the Minister of Municipalities and Housing, Mr. Majid bin Abdullah Al-Hogail, inaugurated the “NHC Foundation.” This took place during the Future Real Estate Forum 2026, in the presence of the CEO of the National Housing Company (NHC), Mr. Mohammed bin Saleh Al-Bati. This unique initiative aims to unify community efforts under a single regulatory umbrella, thereby contributing to increased social impact and improved quality of life in the urban developments undertaken by the company.
A national context that supports the non-profit sector
The launch of this institution comes at a time when the Kingdom is witnessing unprecedented developmental momentum within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on empowering the third (non-profit) sector and increasing its contribution to the GDP. The National Housing Company, as the investment arm of the Ministry of Municipalities and Housing, is a pioneer in developing integrated urban communities. Through this initiative, the company is transitioning from its role as a traditional real estate developer to one of creating vibrant and sustainable residential environments, where development extends beyond mere infrastructure to encompass human development and the strengthening of social bonds.
Human beings are the focus of sustainable development
Commenting on the event, NHC CEO Mohammed Al-Batti affirmed that the establishment of the new entity is a non-profit organization aimed at institutionalizing and developing civic engagement. He noted that the NHC Foundation represents a natural extension of the company's approach to creating a sustainable impact, emphasizing that the true concept of real estate development begins with the people who live there. The Foundation seeks to ensure the continued operation of quality-of-life facilities and the growth of their impact to serve current and future generations, thus strengthening the concept of social and economic sustainability within residential communities.
Innovative working mechanisms and strategic partnerships
The foundation will serve as the organizational arm for community initiatives, focusing its efforts on several key areas, most notably supporting volunteer initiatives and operating vital facilities such as educational and healthcare centers, mosques, and social facilities. To ensure the financial sustainability of these projects, the foundation plans to establish investment endowment funds, the returns from which will be used for the long-term maintenance and operation of these facilities. The foundation will also forge strategic partnerships with the government, private, and non-profit sectors to capitalize on opportunities in the sustainability sector.
Expected impact: Vibrant and responsible communities
The establishment of the NHC Foundation is expected to revolutionize the way residential communities are managed in the Kingdom. By fostering community engagement and transforming residents from beneficiaries into active partners in improving their environment, the Foundation will contribute to creating cohesive and responsible communities. The anticipated impact includes enhanced sports and healthcare services, environmental protection, and support for educational programs, directly contributing to the goals of the Quality of Life Program, a key component of Saudi Vision 2030.
