Jameel Saudi Arabia supports orphans in partnership with Dori Roshan

Strategic partnership between Community Jameel Saudi Arabia and the Roshen Professional League

In a move reflecting the depth of social responsibility and the importance of sports as a tool for positive change, the Saudi Jameel Community, in collaboration with the Saudi Professional League (SPL), launched a unique humanitarian initiative aimed at supporting and empowering orphaned children in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The initiative provided 440 orphaned children with an exceptional opportunity to accompany international and local football stars onto the pitch before the start of 20 official league matches, creating unforgettable moments for these children and inspiring them to pursue their future aspirations.

Background and historical context of the initiative

This initiative builds upon the decades-long efforts of Community Jameel Saudi Arabia in community development. The organization has a long track record of supporting education and empowering youth, most notably through its Tanweer program, launched 15 years ago. This program focuses on supporting academically gifted orphans by organizing educational and recreational summer trips to developed countries such as Japan, France, Turkey, Singapore, and Malaysia, aiming to broaden their horizons and provide them with global experiences. The partnership with the Saudi Roshan League, which has recently gained tremendous global momentum, represents a natural progression of these efforts, harnessing the global passion for football to serve noble humanitarian goals.

The importance of the event and its expected impact

The importance of this initiative extends beyond the purely moral aspect, encompassing profound psychological and social dimensions. Locally, this experience contributes to boosting the self-confidence of orphaned children, making them feel an integral part of the community and that their dreams are valued and appreciated. This was clearly demonstrated during the Al-Ahli vs. Al-Nassr derby match held at Al-Awwal Park Stadium in Riyadh, where the children wore clothing symbolizing their future professions, such as doctors, engineers, and scientists, sending a powerful symbolic message that education is the path to achieving dreams.

Regionally and internationally, with millions around the world following the Saudi Roshan League, this initiative presents a positive image of Saudi Arabia, highlighting its commitment to social solidarity and caring for the most vulnerable. Seeing global stars like Cristiano Ronaldo, Sadio Mane, Riyad Mahrez, and Franck Kessié holding the hands of these children sends a humanitarian message that transcends the boundaries of sport, affirming that football can be a powerful platform for positive influence and inspiring future generations.

Statements and future vision

In this context, Abdullah Talab, Director of Social Programs at Community Jameel Saudi Arabia, stated: “Our goal goes beyond simply being present on the field; we strive to create an inspiring experience that motivates children to excel academically. Dressing up as future professions serves as a reminder that academic excellence is the true path to achieving dreams.” He added that this initiative aligns with the foundation’s ongoing strategy of supporting and empowering orphans academically, which directly contributes to achieving the goals of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on developing the non-profit sector and strengthening social solidarity.
