Third phase in preparations for the 2026 World Cup

The players of the Saudi national first team settled in yesterday (Sunday) at their residence in Jeddah Governorate, signaling the start of the preparatory camp that is being held during the FIFA International Days for the month of March, as part of the third phase of the preparation program for the (Green) team for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ finals.

The players were received by the Green Team coach, Hervé Renard, and the director of the Saudi national football team, Captain Saleh Al-Dawood, who exchanged greetings with the players on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr.

The first day of the camp witnessed the arrival of Saud Abdulhamid, a player for the French club Lens, to the city of Jeddah, coming from France, after his last participation with his team against Angers and his contribution to achieving a new victory with a score of (5-1), raising his team’s tally to 59 points, second to the leader of the French league, behind Paris Saint-Germain by a single point.

The camp will run from March 22 to 31, moving between Jeddah and the Republic of Serbia, where the (Green) team will host its Egyptian counterpart in a friendly match next Friday, March 27, at the Al-Inma Stadium in King Abdullah Sports City, before heading to the Serbian capital, Belgrade, to meet the Serbian national team in a friendly match on Tuesday, March 31.

The national team delegation is scheduled to depart for Belgrade on Saturday, March 28, and the team will hold two training sessions there as part of its preparations for the upcoming match.

The national team (Al-Akhdar) launched its training program yesterday evening with an evening session held on the auxiliary fields of King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, in the presence of the media, in accordance with the approved technical program.

In a related context, the technical program will witness the establishment of a parallel camp for the national team (B) in Jeddah during the same period, under the supervision of the technical director of the first team, Hervé Renard, and led by the coach of the under-23 national team, the Italian Luigi Di Biagio, in a step aimed at expanding the base of technical options and enhancing readiness.

This camp is part of a series of preparations for upcoming events, most notably participation in the FIFA World Cup 2026™ finals, where the national team was drawn into Group H alongside Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde.
