Launch of the Fiqh of Hajj rituals program for the 1447 AH Hajj season in Saudi Arabia
As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's ongoing efforts to serve the pilgrims, His Excellency the Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dawah and Guidance, and General Supervisor of the Ministry's Hajj, Umrah and Visitation Affairs, Sheikh Dr. Abdul Latif bin Abdulaziz Al-Sheikh, launched the "Jurisprudence of Hajj Rituals" program for the 1447 AH Hajj season. This launch took place in His Excellency's office at the Ministry, in the presence of the Ministry's undersecretaries and directors general, underscoring the great importance the wise leadership places on raising awareness and educating pilgrims religiously before and during the performance of the Hajj.
General context and historical background of awareness efforts
Historically, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has undertaken the responsibility of facilitating the Hajj pilgrimage for Muslims from all corners of the earth. This facilitation extends beyond logistical, security, and health aspects to encompass the religious and educational dimensions that represent the essence of this spiritual journey. The programs of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs are an extension of a well-established approach aimed at disseminating sound Islamic knowledge derived from the Quran and Sunnah, and the understanding of the early generations of Muslims. This strategic direction aligns with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which seeks to enrich the religious and cultural experience of pilgrims and Umrah performers, ensuring they can perform their rituals with ease, tranquility, and in accordance with the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Topics and objectives of the program on the jurisprudence of rituals
This pioneering program is overseen by the Ministry's Agency for Da'wah and Guidance, in close cooperation with the Institute of Imams and Preachers. The program primarily aims to explain the rulings of Hajj and Umrah, and to clarify the rituals and their etiquette. It includes comprehensive scholarly and da'wah-related topics, most notably: detailing the rulings of Hajj and Umrah, explaining the different types of rituals, highlighting the prohibitions of Ihram, and explaining the rulings on sacrifice and offering. The program also focuses on strengthening the role of preachers and mosque staff during the Hajj season, raising their awareness of the importance of adhering to regulations, and fostering fruitful cooperation with all governmental and security agencies working to serve pilgrims, in order to ensure the smooth operation and success of the season.
Expected impact of the program locally and internationally
The “Jurisprudence of Hajj” program has a wide-ranging positive impact. Locally, it contributes to raising the efficiency of Saudi preachers and orators and unifying the religious discourse directed at pilgrims, reflecting the Kingdom’s commendable efforts. Regionally and internationally, the program ensures that accurate religious information reaches millions of pilgrims from around the world, reducing common errors and violations of Islamic law during the performance of Hajj rituals and enhancing spirituality and tranquility in the holy sites.
Implementation mechanisms and reliance on modern technology
To ensure maximum benefit, the Ministry of Islamic Affairs confirmed that the program will be implemented across the Kingdom's various regions, governorates, and centers. A select group of official and registered preachers (both male and female) participating in the "Taysir" system will be utilized. In keeping with the Kingdom's technological and digital advancements, the program will not be limited to in-person lectures and seminars but will also employ various electronic platforms and live streaming technologies. This strategic step guarantees that the educational content reaches the widest possible audience, both within and outside the Kingdom, reflecting the Ministry's commitment to harnessing modern technology to serve Islamic outreach and facilitate the Hajj pilgrimage.
