National Center for Vegetation Development: Contracts to develop 3 parks
A strategic step towards sustainable ecotourism
In a strategic move aimed at boosting ecotourism and achieving sustainable development, the National Center for Vegetation Development and Combating Desertification in Saudi Arabia announced the signing of a package of major investment contracts. These contracts target the development of three large national parks, with investment periods of up to 25 years. This step aims to enhance the participation of various sectors in achieving environmental goals and supporting nature tourism, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to developing its green infrastructure.
General context and strategic importance of the event
Historically, the Arabian Peninsula has faced environmental challenges such as desertification and drought, making the preservation of natural resources a top priority. These new contracts align with the Kingdom’s comprehensive vision (Vision 2030) and the Saudi Green Initiative, which aim to increase green spaces and improve quality of life. Domestically, these projects contribute to job creation, support the local economy, and stimulate domestic tourism. Regionally and internationally, these steps underscore the Kingdom’s leadership in environmental conservation and climate change adaptation, enhancing its standing in global environmental indicators and supporting international efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
Development of Arar National Park: An oasis in the northern border region
The signed contracts included a massive investment project in Arar National Park, located in the Northern Borders region. This project spans a vast area exceeding 14 million square meters. The development aims to transform the park into a comprehensive tourist destination by providing dedicated areas for operations and production, as well as others for logistics services. Service and operational facilities will also be established to support recreational and environmental activities, ensuring high-quality public services for visitors and making the area a leading tourist attraction in northern Saudi Arabia.
Whithilan National Park: Merging history with nature
In the Riyadh region, the contracts included investment in the Wathilan National Park, covering an area of approximately 5 million square meters. This park holds particular significance due to its unique natural and environmental diversity, as well as its profound historical and cultural value. The investment plan will focus on establishing integrated eco-camps that offer visitors exceptional tourism and recreational experiences suitable for all age groups, allowing them to enjoy nature in a safe and well-equipped environment.
Saad National Park: A complete desert adventure
Development efforts have also extended to Saad National Park in the Riyadh region, which spans two million square meters. This project aims to create an integrated tourism experience that combines the allure of nature with thrilling and adventurous activities. A diverse range of desert and heritage experiences will be offered, along with exciting sporting activities, and a roadside assistance center and a comprehensive hospitality system will be established to meet the needs of park visitors.
Effective partnerships for a green future
The National Center for Vegetation Development affirms its ongoing commitment to fostering effective collaboration with various governmental, private, and non-profit sectors, as well as building strategic partnerships with regional and international organizations. These concerted efforts aim to achieve the strategic objectives of developing vegetation cover, mitigating desertification, and expanding green spaces, ultimately contributing to sustainable environmental development that benefits current and future generations.
