More than 10,000 Zamzam water containers for visitors to the Prophet's Mosque
Introduction: Caring for the guests of God in the city of the Messenger of God
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia places great importance and care in serving the pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques, and providing water to visitors and worshippers is considered one of the most important services offered around the clock. In this context, the General Authority for the Care of the Grand Mosque and the Prophet's Mosque, represented by its Water Department, continues its tremendous and ongoing efforts to provide blessed Zamzam water, both chilled and unchilled, within the halls and outer courtyards of the Prophet's Mosque, to ensure the comfort and tranquility of worshippers.
Historical context: The honor of providing water throughout the ages
Historically, providing water to pilgrims has been considered one of the noblest and most honorable professions among Arabs and Muslims since pre-Islamic times, and Islam further elevated its status and prestige. Zamzam water is linked to the story of the Prophet Ishmael and his mother Hagar (peace be upon them), becoming a symbol of life and blessing ever since. Throughout Islamic history, caliphs and rulers have competed to provide this water to pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah. In modern times, particularly under the Saudi regime, this noble service has transformed from individual efforts into a massive institutional system that utilizes the latest global technologies to ensure the delivery of pure, chilled water to millions of Muslims.
Numbers and statistics: The water supply system in the Prophet's Mosque
The distribution of Zamzam water at the Prophet's Mosque is managed through a comprehensive and meticulously planned operational system. This system includes the strategic distribution of over 10,000 containers of Zamzam water throughout the mosque, in addition to an average of 12,000 ready-to-use water bottles. Furthermore, 60 fixed drinking fountains have been installed, ensuring easy and convenient access to water for visitors and worshippers, even during peak times and busy seasons.
Highest quality standards: Accurate laboratory tests and analyses
Because the health of visitors is a top priority, the Authority's role extends beyond simply providing water; it also includes maintaining the quality and safety of Zamzam water. The Authority implements a rigorous, periodic program for collecting and analyzing samples from various water sources and distribution networks. Annual statistics include the collection of approximately 1,640 samples from main reservoirs, 5,000 samples from filling stations, and 740 samples from drinking fountains and public water sources. Laboratory tests also encompass 13,750 samples from containers, 1,850 samples from bottles, 8,068 samples from tankers, and 750 samples from reservoirs. These analyses are conducted continuously to verify the water's efficiency, quality, and safety according to the highest international health and technical standards.
Impact and significance: local, regional, and international dimensions
This event and ongoing effort have a profound impact on several levels. Locally, it contributes to maintaining public health in Medina and prevents the spread of diseases that could result from drinking unsterilized water in massive gatherings. Regionally and internationally, this meticulous organization sends a message of reassurance to the millions of Muslims worldwide who come to perform Hajj and Umrah, assuring them that their safety and comfort are in safe hands. This institutional work also reflects the Kingdom’s deep commitment to achieving the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to enrich the religious and cultural experience of pilgrims and increase the capacity of the Two Holy Mosques while maintaining the highest standards of service quality.
