Al-Jawf weather: Rain and flash floods expected in Sakaka and these governorates

The National Center for Meteorology in Saudi Arabia issued an important weather alert today for the Al-Jawf region, indicating that the area will be affected by a period of atmospheric instability starting tomorrow, Friday. This weather system will bring light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by various weather phenomena that may affect daily life and traffic in the region.
Weather details and timings
The center explained in its report that the rainy weather will directly affect the city of Sakaka and the governorates of Dumat al-Jandal, Qurayyat, and Tabuk. More specifically, the meteorological department predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in both Sakaka and Dumat al-Jandal. The weather system will not be limited to rain alone, but will also be accompanied by strong winds that may stir up dust and sand, causing near-zero horizontal visibility, in addition to hail, flash floods in valleys and ravines, and thunderstorms. This weather pattern is expected to continue from 4:00 AM until 4:00 PM tomorrow.
As for the governorates of Al-Qurayyat and Tabarjal, the center indicated that they were affected by light rain, accompanied by active winds and a decrease in horizontal visibility, with the possibility of thunderstorms, starting from 02:00 am until 02:00 pm.
Geographical context and agricultural importance of the region
These warnings are particularly important given the geographical and economic nature of the Al-Jawf region. Located in the north of the Kingdom, it is considered a vital "breadbasket," renowned worldwide for its olive, date, and fruit cultivation. While rainfall is generally welcome for farmers, replenishing groundwater reserves and irrigating crops, heavy downpours accompanied by hail and wind can pose a significant challenge to sensitive crops at this time of year. Furthermore, the rugged terrain of some parts of the region, characterized by valleys, makes flash flood warnings crucial for protecting lives and property.
Expected effects and safety guidelines
Locally, this weather condition necessitates caution, especially for those traveling on highways connecting Al-Jawf region to neighboring areas and international borders, as strong winds and rain can cause landslides and reduced visibility. The General Directorate of Civil Defense typically advises people in such conditions to stay away from valleys and flood channels, to avoid crossing them regardless of water levels, and to adhere to the instructions of relevant authorities to ensure public safety.
