Enhanced Social Security: Does owning two homes stop the pension?

Introduction to the developed social security system and its objectives

The enhanced social security program in Saudi Arabia is one of the most important pillars of the social safety net provided by the state to its citizens. The launch of this modern system by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development came in response to the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which aims to improve the quality of life and provide a dignified life for the most vulnerable families. The new system's role is not limited to providing financial support; it extends to empowering and training individuals to transform them from recipients of aid to productive members of society who actively participate in national economic development.

Owning more than one home: Does it disqualify one from receiving social security benefits?

One of the most frequently asked questions by beneficiaries is the impact of a family member owning more than one property or home on their eligibility for a pension. In this regard, the Social Security Program has clarified this issue by outlining the mechanism for handling such cases. The program emphasized that, in cases where a family member owns more than one home, dependents must be assigned to each home separately. Accordingly, specialized committees assess the eligibility of only the home where the dependents reside, ensuring that support is directed accurately and transparently based on actual need and family structure.

Cases of suspension of social security pension payments

To ensure that support reaches those who truly need it and in accordance with the principles of fairness and sustainability, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has identified the cases that necessitate the immediate suspension of pension payments, based on Article 17 of the Social Security Law. These cases include the following:

  • If the beneficiary fails to meet one of the approved eligibility requirements.
  • If the ministry determines that the data and documents submitted about the independent individual or family are incorrect or forged.
  • If it is proven that the eligible beneficiary has not complied with the rehabilitation plan assigned to him by the ministry.
  • If the beneficiary delays updating his required personal data for a period exceeding thirty days from the date he was notified of the need to update.
  • If it is proven that the beneficiary who is able to work is not seriously seeking a job opportunity, or has not applied to approved employment platforms, or has refused suitable job and training offers made to him.

Economic and social impact of the developed system

This meticulous organization has a significant positive impact at both the local and regional levels. By linking support to job searching and training, the Kingdom contributes to reducing unemployment rates and increasing domestic productivity. Furthermore, relying on accurate data to assess eligibility prevents financial waste and ensures the sustainability of economic resources for future generations, making the Saudi experience in social protection a model to be emulated in the region.

Application stages and pension disbursement mechanism

To facilitate procedures for citizens, the Social Security system allows for online applications through the Social Support and Protection platform. The process begins with entering the applicant's basic information, followed by adding all family members residing in the same dwelling and linking them to their registered national address. Applications are then subject to eligibility review and automated data verification through links with relevant government agencies. To further streamline the process for beneficiaries, eligibility results are announced on the 27th of each month, while pensions are deposited regularly for eligible recipients on the 1st of each month.
