Border guards apprehend illegal hunters in Al-Qunfudhah, Makkah
As part of the ongoing security and monitoring efforts undertaken by the competent authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to maintain security and protect national resources, the coastal patrols of the Border Guard in Al-Qunfudhah Governorate in the Makkah Region were able to apprehend two Bangladeshi residents, after they violated the security and safety regulations for those practicing maritime activities.
Official sources explained that the arrest came after the suspects were observed fishing in the Kingdom's territorial waters without the necessary permits. They were found in possession of quantities of fish caught illegally. The relevant authorities have initiated all necessary legal procedures against the violators, and they have been referred to the appropriate bodies for further investigation and the application of the penalties stipulated by law.
The importance of adhering to maritime regulations and protecting fish stocks
This operation is part of a broader context reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's commitment, through the General Directorate of Border Guards, to upholding the rule of law in its territorial waters and protecting the marine environment from overexploitation. The regulations governing safety and security for those engaged in maritime activities are a cornerstone for ensuring the safety of fishermen and recreational boaters, as well as for regulating fishing operations to guarantee the sustainability of natural resources.
These efforts are particularly important within the framework of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great emphasis on protecting the environment and wildlife. Unlicensed fishing is not only a security violation but also a threat to the ecological balance of the Red Sea, one of the world's richest marine environments in terms of biodiversity. The relevant authorities are working diligently to prevent practices that could damage coral reefs or deplete fish stocks, thus ensuring the preservation of these resources for future generations.
The role of border guards and social responsibility
The Saudi border guard's role extends beyond protecting the borders from infiltrators and smugglers; it also encompasses humanitarian and environmental responsibilities through coastal monitoring and enforcement of regulations that maintain public safety. Al-Qunfudhah Governorate, where this incident occurred, is one of the most important coastal governorates in the Makkah region, characterized by intense maritime activity that necessitates constant vigilance from coastal patrols.
In closing, the General Directorate of Border Guards urged all citizens and residents to fully comply with regulations and instructions and to obtain the necessary permits before engaging in any maritime activity. It also called upon everyone to demonstrate national and social responsibility by immediately reporting any violations that harm the environment or wildlife or constitute a breach of regulations.
Emergency cases and violations can be reported by calling the numbers designated for this purpose: the number (911) in the regions of Makkah, Riyadh, the Eastern Province and Madinah, and the numbers (994), (999) and (996) in the rest of the regions of the Kingdom, stressing that all reports are dealt with in complete confidentiality and without any legal responsibility on the person reporting.
