The Governor of Jazan inaugurates the Tarahum Endowment Fund to support prisoners and their families
In a move reflecting the wise leadership's commitment to developing the non-profit sector and promoting financial sustainability in charitable work, His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of Jazan Region, inaugurated the "Tarham Endowment Fund" today. This took place in the presence of Abdullah Al-Shamrani, Chairman of the National Sub-Committee for the Care of Prisoners' Families and Released Prisoners in the region, and several committee members. This inauguration marks a new phase in the region's humanitarian efforts.
During the inauguration ceremony, His Highness listened to a detailed explanation of the fund's strategic objectives, which were designed to be a sustainable investment model. The fund primarily aims to generate stable financial resources to support prisoners, released inmates, and their families, not only through direct assistance but also by enhancing comprehensive care programs, psychological and vocational rehabilitation, and social empowerment, thus ensuring the transformation of beneficiaries from recipients of aid to productive members of society.
Enhancing financial sustainability and aligning with Vision 2030
The launch of this endowment fund is perfectly aligned with the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030, which places great importance on the third sector (the non-profit sector) and seeks to increase its contribution to the GDP. Endowments are a fundamental pillar for achieving financial stability for charitable associations and committees, moving them from dependence on sporadic, temporary donations to a secure investment system that generates regular returns, ensuring the continuity and development of their services.
Comprehensive care and far-reaching social impact
His Highness the Deputy Governor of Jazan Region affirmed that the launch of the fund is an extension of the generous support provided by the wise leadership – may God protect them – to all that promotes charitable and sustainable development work. His Highness pointed out that such initiatives contribute directly to improving the quality of life and providing real opportunities for beneficiaries to integrate into society effectively and productively, thus mitigating the negative effects of the absence of a breadwinner and preserving the dignity of prisoners' families.
The “Tarham” Committee plays a pivotal role in preserving the social fabric. Its role extends beyond financial support to include educational care for children, legal assistance, and job-oriented training for released prisoners, ensuring they do not re-offend. This endowment fund will significantly contribute to financing these vital programs and expanding their reach to a wider segment of beneficiaries across all governorates of the region.
At the conclusion of the meeting, His Highness was briefed on the Fund’s work plans and its diverse investment paths, as well as the precise governance mechanisms used to direct its returns, in order to achieve the highest standards of transparency and efficiency, and to enhance the social impact of the services provided in the Jazan region.
