Madinah road projects: Early preparations for Hajj 1447 AH
Introduction: The historical care of the pilgrims
Since its founding, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has placed great importance and meticulous care on serving the pilgrims. Road projects in Medina and Mecca are at the forefront of the wise leadership's strategic priorities. With the launch of Vision 2030, this commitment has crystallized into the Pilgrims Service Program, which aims to bring about a qualitative leap in the experience of Hajj and Umrah pilgrims and facilitate their access to the Two Holy Mosques. Within this historical and national context, tireless efforts continue to develop infrastructure and land transport networks to accommodate the increasing numbers of Muslims arriving from all corners of the earth to perform their rituals.
Details of the field tour of Madinah road projects
As part of early and intensive preparations, His Excellency the CEO of the General Authority for Roads, Engineer Bader bin Abdullah Al-Dalami, conducted an extensive field inspection tour of several road projects in Madinah. This tour aimed to closely assess the progress of the projects and ensure the complete readiness of the road network to receive pilgrims during the Hajj season of 1447 AH. During his tour, His Excellency reviewed the operational and construction work, emphasizing the need for strict adherence to the highest standards of quality and traffic safety. This will directly contribute to enhancing road efficiency and raising the level of operational readiness well before the start of the Hajj season.
The importance and expected impact of road network development
The importance of developing road projects in Medina is not limited to facilitating the movement of pilgrims, but its impact extends to include multiple local, regional and international dimensions:
- Local impact: These projects contribute to easing traffic congestion within Medina, facilitating the movement of local residents, in addition to supporting economic and commercial activity in the region through a sophisticated and reliable infrastructure that connects the various governorates.
- Regional and international impact: These preparations reflect the Kingdom's exceptional ability to manage massive crowds and organize major events. They also ensure a safe and smooth journey for millions of Muslims arriving from around the world, leaving a positive and lasting impression of the advanced level of services provided in the Kingdom.
The role of the General Authority for Roads in achieving sustainability and safety
These steps are part of the General Authority for Roads' ongoing efforts to comprehensively oversee the Kingdom's road sector. The Authority is working to enhance the sector's readiness through continuous field monitoring and the application of the latest international technical and technological standards in road construction and maintenance. These measures aim to improve the user experience, raise safety and efficiency levels, and reduce traffic accident rates, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy. Ensuring the reliability of the road network in Madinah is a fundamental pillar for handling the anticipated heavy traffic during the Hajj season, underscoring the Kingdom's commitment to providing the best possible services to visitors of the Prophet's Mosque.
