Talented female students from the Kingdom participating in the European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad

Talented women from the Kingdom are on their way to global recognition

A select group of talented Saudi Arabian female students are preparing to compete in the 2026 European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO), which will be held in Bordeaux, France, from April 9 to 15. This exceptional participation is part of the Mawhiba Foundation's International Olympiads Program, reflecting the Kingdom's ongoing commitment to an active and influential presence in global scientific forums.

Saudi Arabia's national mathematics team lineup

The Saudi national mathematics team, overseen and trained by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) in strategic partnership with the Ministry of Education, includes four outstanding high school students. The team consists of: Tala Faisal from the Eastern Province Education Department, Batoul Osama Al-Aidaroos from the Yanbu Education Department, Lana Yahya Nouri from the Jeddah Education Department, and Fatima Hassan Al-Marhoon from the Eastern Province Education Department. These students have undergone intensive training by a select group of local and international experts to ensure the highest level of readiness for the competition.

History and importance of the European Girls' Olympics

The European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) is one of the most prestigious annual international competitions for secondary school students. The first edition of this renowned competition was held in 2012 and hosted by the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The competition primarily aims to encourage girls to participate in mathematical competitions at both the national and international levels, and to promote their presence in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), thereby contributing to bridging the gender gap in these vital disciplines and building a generation of innovative women.

A record full of Saudi achievements

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has achieved a remarkable and distinguished presence in this competition since its first participation. The Kingdom has participated in 13 previous editions, during which its talented female athletes have won 36 prestigious international awards. These achievements include two gold medals, seven silver medals, and 15 bronze medals, in addition to 12 certificates of appreciation. This impressive record demonstrates the effectiveness of the methodology employed in discovering and nurturing talent in Saudi Arabia.

Local and international impact of participation

This participation is a natural extension of the efforts of the Mawhiba Foundation in preparing and qualifying students for international scientific competitions through a series of intensive training programs and specialized camps that contribute to developing advanced mathematical thinking skills and honing their abilities to solve complex problems. These efforts are perfectly aligned with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030, which places great importance on developing human capital, empowering Saudi women, and supporting innovation and scientific excellence.

Domestically, these participations play a crucial role in inspiring rising generations of Saudi girls to pursue specialized scientific fields. Regionally, the Kingdom reaffirms its leadership in the Arab world by topping the rankings in science Olympiads. Internationally, these achievements enhance the Kingdom's soft power, showcasing the excellence of Saudi education and the ability of its sons and daughters to compete alongside their counterparts from developed countries, thus solidifying Saudi Arabia's position on the global map of scientific innovation.
