Makkah Environment delivers 11 tons of vegetables to a Jeddah charity to enhance food security

In a move reflecting the integration of regulatory oversight and social responsibility, the Makkah Region branch of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, represented by the Markets and Slaughterhouses Department, implemented a unique initiative at the central fruit and vegetable market in Jeddah. This initiative involved donating a substantial quantity of agricultural produce, totaling 11,431 kilograms of various fruits and vegetables, to a recognized charitable organization in the region.

Strengthening the food security system and reducing waste

This step comes within a broader strategic framework aimed at enhancing food security in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and is in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, which places great importance on reducing food loss and waste. The Ministry is working diligently to transform products confiscated for regulatory reasons—provided they are deemed safe for consumption—into useful resources that support families in need, instead of destroying them, thus achieving sustainable economic, social, and environmental returns.

Strict food safety standards

The ministry branch clarified that the delivery process only took place after thorough and comprehensive inspection procedures, during which all quantities were tested to ensure their complete suitability for human consumption and their freedom from any contaminants or spoilage. This procedure underscores the ministry's dual commitment to enforcing regulations against violators in the markets, on the one hand, and ensuring the delivery of safe and healthy food to beneficiaries of charitable organizations, on the other.

Integration between the government and non-profit sectors

This initiative falls within the framework of activating the social responsibility of government entities. The ministry branch commended the fruitful cooperation with charitable organizations, which play a pivotal role in "preserving blessings" and delivering them to those who deserve them. For its part, the beneficiary charitable organization expressed its appreciation for this support, noting that such initiatives directly contribute to meeting the needs of many families and strengthen the values of social solidarity.

Continued intensive monitoring tours

In a related context, the Markets and Slaughterhouses Department of the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture branch in the Makkah region confirmed the continuation of its field inspection tours of the central fruit and vegetable market and all public markets. These ongoing tours aim to control prices, ensure the availability of goods, and monitor compliance with health and technical requirements, thus guaranteeing consumer protection and the safety of food products in the region's markets.
