Registration has closed for the Judicial Intelligence Hackathon for Digital Justice Development

The organizing committees at the Board of Grievances are preparing to close registration for the "Judicial Intelligence" hackathon on Tuesday, January 20, 2026. This event is the first of its kind globally in the field of technological development for judicial work, as it aims to attract creative minds to provide innovative solutions based on artificial intelligence to improve the justice system.
Saudi leadership in judicial digital transformation
This hackathon is being organized within the context of the significant technological advancements taking place in Saudi Arabia as part of its Vision 2030 goals, which prioritize the digitization of government services. The Kingdom's judicial system has made remarkable strides in recent years, transitioning from traditional paper-based transactions to a fully integrated digital environment. The Board of Grievances' launch of this global event reflects the judiciary's commitment to adopting the latest technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to ensure swift action and accurate judgments.
Hackathon tracks and participation requirements
The registration period, which began on December 28th, witnessed a huge turnout of participating teams, exceeding expectations from the first week. The organizing committee outlined two main competition tracks:
- The first track focuses on developing internal judicial processes, and aims to create tools that help speed up litigation procedures, reduce time periods, and minimize procedural errors.
- The second track: It is concerned with improving the beneficiaries’ experience, with a special focus on facilitating the use of digital platforms for the elderly and people with special needs, to ensure that everyone has easy and convenient access to justice.
The Bureau stipulated that the teams should consist of three to five members, including a select group of academics, technical specialists, and university students, to ensure a diversity of expertise and quality of outputs.
The importance of artificial intelligence in the future of justice
This event is of great strategic importance, as artificial intelligence is viewed as an aid to judges, not a replacement for them. Modern technologies help in analyzing vast amounts of data from past cases and extracting legal precedents with unprecedented speed, thus supporting judges in making the right decisions. Automation also contributes to reducing the administrative burden on judicial departments, allowing judges to focus on the substantive aspects of cases.
Competition schedule
The Board of Grievances announced the timeline for the remaining phases, with the qualifying teams to be announced on January 23, 2026. Project discussion and presentation sessions are scheduled to be held remotely on January 28. Through this modern methodology, the Board aims to enhance the operational efficiency of administrative courts, reduce litigation time, and solidify the Kingdom's position as a leader in smart justice.
