Saudi Arabia's garden development plan: 6 million square meters by 2025 as part of Vision 2030

An ambitious plan to enhance the quality of life in the Kingdom

The Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced an ambitious plan to develop a total area of 6 million square meters of public parks in various regions of the Kingdom by the end of 2025. This initiative comes as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve the urban landscape and raise the quality of life for residents and visitors, relying on innovative investment models based on effective partnership with the private sector.

General context: Alignment with Saudi Vision 2030

This ambitious project falls within a broader framework aligned with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030, specifically the Quality of Life Program, which aims to have at least three Saudi cities ranked among the top 100 most livable cities in the world. Providing high-quality green spaces and recreational facilities is a cornerstone of achieving this objective. Public parks contribute to the physical and mental well-being of the community, offer a natural haven for residents, and encourage participation in sports and social activities. These efforts complement the Saudi Green Initiative, which seeks to increase vegetation cover, combat desertification, and improve air quality, reflecting the Kingdom's commitment to sustainable development.

The importance and expected impact of the project

The project is expected to have multiple positive impacts at both the local and national levels. Locally, the parks will be transformed into integrated urban platforms and vibrant destinations, transcending their traditional role as green spaces to encompass recreational, sporting, cultural, and commercial activities. This transformation will enhance the cities' appeal and create new economic opportunities for investors and entrepreneurs, as well as providing direct and indirect employment opportunities. Nationally, the project is expected to contribute an estimated financial impact of approximately SAR 2.4 billion by 2025 through partnership models that alleviate the burden on the state budget and ensure the financial sustainability of municipal projects.

Innovative investment models and effective partnerships

The Ministry's official spokesperson, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Ras'amah, explained that this expansion reflects the Ministry's focus on maximizing the efficiency of municipal assets and transforming them into effective development drivers. This is achieved by offering high-quality investment opportunities through the municipal investment portal "Furas," which allows the private sector to participate in construction, development, and operation. These models ensure a delicate balance between the economic dimension and the social role of parks, while preserving their environmental and social identity as open facilities serving all segments of society. These partnerships also contribute to introducing modern operational concepts and high-quality services that enhance the visitor experience and ensure the long-term sustainability of these vital facilities.
