Opening of the Abyat Logistics Center at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam

In a move that enhances the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s position as a global logistics hub, King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam witnessed the inauguration of the new regional logistics center belonging to “Abyat” company, under the patronage and in the presence of the Minister of Transport and Logistics and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Ports (Mawani), Engineer Saleh bin Nasser Al-Jasser.

Strategic partnership to support Vision 2030

This massive project, spanning over 110,000 square meters and representing an investment of more than 100 million riyals, is part of the Kingdom's rapid economic growth. Its opening aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy, launched by the Crown Prince, which aims to solidify the Kingdom's position as a global logistics hub connecting three continents and to strengthen public-private partnerships.

During the opening ceremony, Engineer Saleh Al-Jasser emphasized that this center represents a model of effective partnership that “Mawani” seeks to achieve, noting that such projects raise the operational efficiency of Saudi ports and enhance their regional and international competitiveness, which positively impacts the national economy and supports supply chains.

Customs bonded area with international standards

For his part, Abyat CEO Mohammed Khaled Abel revealed details of the project, which includes a fully integrated customs bonded area spanning 40,000 square meters. This area represents a significant turning point in operational processes, allowing goods to be stored under customs supervision without immediate payment of duties, thus providing greater flexibility in re-exporting and cash flow management.

Apple explained that Abyat is one of the first companies to obtain a license to establish and operate these zones, which will enable it to speed up clearance procedures, reduce transit time for shipments, and lower operating costs, in order to serve the Saudi market and the markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries with high efficiency.

The importance of King Abdulaziz Port and its regional role

This project derives its importance from the strategic location of King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, the Kingdom's main port on the Arabian Gulf coast and the eastern gateway through which goods pass to and from global markets. The port boasts advanced infrastructure and the capacity to handle various types of cargo, making it a cornerstone of regional trade.

Investment in logistics zones within the port reflects the general trend towards transforming ports from mere transit points into integrated logistics hubs that provide value-added services, such as storage, packaging, and distribution, attracting more foreign and local investments.

Supporting the national industry "Made in Saudi Arabia"

In a related context, the CEO of Abyat pointed out that the company is not only focused on logistics but is also strengthening its industrial capabilities through its factories, built on an area of 120,000 square meters in cooperation with MODON (Saudi Authority for Industrial Cities and Technology Zones) and the Saudi Industrial Development Fund. This complex contributes to the localization of kitchen, door, and window manufacturing, creating more than 1,400 job opportunities, which aligns with the "Made in Saudi Arabia" program and supports local content in the building and construction sector.
