Religious Affairs at the Two Holy Mosques: 70 interactive screens in 42 languages to serve pilgrims
The General Presidency for Religious Affairs at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina announced the intensification of its technical and awareness efforts on Friday night, through the operation of 70 interactive smart screens distributed throughout the Two Holy Mosques. This step comes as part of the operational plan for the Hajj season of 1447 AH, and aims to broadcast reliable religious content and guide pilgrims in more than 42 international languages, reflecting the universal message of the Two Holy Mosques.
Historical context and the role of the Two Holy Mosques:
Throughout history, the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet's Mosque in Medina have served as beacons of knowledge and guidance, where scholars held study circles and lessons to teach Muslims from all corners of the earth about their faith. This digital initiative is a modern extension of this historical role, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia harnesses the latest technologies to ensure the continuity of this great legacy. While the means of disseminating knowledge were once limited to study circles and books, they evolved to include radio and television broadcasts, and today they reach their most advanced form through interactive screens that place religious information at the fingertips of those seeking it at the touch of a button.
The importance of the initiative and its expected impact:
This significant step aims to enrich the religious experience of pilgrims and enhance their religious awareness by enabling them to access religious rulings and guidance quickly and directly in their native languages. This initiative is expected to have a major positive impact on several levels:
- Locally: It contributes to organizing the religious guidance process within the Two Holy Mosques, reduces crowding around traditional fatwa points, and ensures that visitors, pilgrims, and Hajjis perform their rituals with complete insight and peace of mind, in line with the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 to improve the experience of the guests of God.
- Regionally and internationally: Providing content in 42 languages represents a cultural and intellectual bridge reaching millions of Muslims worldwide. This strengthens the Kingdom's position as a global religious authority and contributes to spreading Islam's tolerant message based on moderation and combating misconceptions and extremist ideologies by offering sound and reliable Islamic content.
Technical system details:
The Presidency, overseen by the Intellectual Security Agency, explained that this technological system is deployed across more than 70 field points and vital locations within the Grand Mosque, including the Mataf expansion, the Saudi portico, the King Fahd expansion, and the Third Saudi expansion. It emphasized that these efforts are in line with the directives of His Excellency the President of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Professor Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulaziz Al-Sudais, aimed at amplifying the message of the Two Holy Mosques and expanding the dissemination of guidance to the world through modern digital tools that address diverse audiences. Activating these screens during peak times is a fundamental pillar of this year's Hajj operational plan, ensuring that the awareness message reaches the largest possible number of pilgrims with ease and convenience.
