As part of the ongoing humanitarian efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to support the brotherly Yemeni people, the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid to strengthen the medical services system in Yemen by signing two new agreements aimed at raising the efficiency of the health sector in the governorates of Al-Mahra and Al-Hudaydah, in order to ensure the continued provision of health care to the most needy groups.

The two agreements were signed via video conference by the Assistant General Supervisor of the Center for Operations and Programs, Engineer Ahmed bin Ali Al-Baiz, with the partner civil society organizations, at the Center’s headquarters in the capital, Riyadh.

Comprehensive medical support for displaced people in Hodeidah

The first agreement included the implementation of the tenth phase of the project to operate emergency medical and nutritional clinics dedicated to displaced people in Al Hudaydah Governorate. This vital project aims to provide a comprehensive package of health services, including:

  • Integrative healthcare and therapeutic nutrition to combat malnutrition.
  • Immunization, reproductive health and pediatric treatment services.
  • Combating and preventing epidemic diseases is a vital aspect under the current health conditions.
  • Providing health awareness and education services to the community.
  • Securing medicines, medical and laboratory solutions, and necessary equipment.

300,544 individuals are expected to benefit from these services , contributing to the preservation of the lives of displaced persons and the host community.

Specialized care for kidney patients in Al Mahrah

The second agreement focused on specialized care, stipulating the implementation of the fourth phase of the kidney dialysis center project in Al-Ghaydah District, Al-Mahra Governorate. The project aims to provide free healthcare services to kidney failure patients, ensuring their survival and alleviating their suffering.

Under this agreement, the following will take place:

  • Providing dialysis (blood filtration) services to 430 patients per month .
  • Performing approximately 5,160 regular dialysis sessions and 20 emergency sessions per month.
  • Providing essential medicines and medical supplies for patients.
  • Supporting the infrastructure of the health sector and localizing medical services in the governorate.

The total number of direct beneficiaries of the center’s services in Al-Mahra reaches about 820 individuals, which constitutes a lifeline for many patients who face difficulties in obtaining expensive treatment.

The context of the humanitarian crisis and the importance of support

These agreements are of paramount strategic importance given the dire health situation in Yemen. Years of conflict have severely damaged much of the health infrastructure, leaving millions without access to basic care. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's projects will fill a significant gap in this sector, particularly in combating epidemics and treating chronic diseases such as kidney failure, which require ongoing and costly equipment that many local facilities are currently unable to provide.

The Kingdom's leading role in humanitarian work

This support is an extension of the long history of standing by the Yemeni people, as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is one of the largest donors to Yemen. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center's efforts are not limited to the medical field; they extend to food security, shelter, water, and sanitation, with the aim of achieving a comprehensive and sustainable recovery and alleviating the severity of the humanitarian crisis, which the United Nations classifies as one of the worst in the world.
