How much did the Middle East lose from the Iran war in 30 days?
“We hope the fighting will stop tomorrow, as every day of delay has negative effects on the global economy,” said Al-Dardari, the regional director for Arab states at the United Nations Development Programme, at a press conference held in Amman on “the economic and social repercussions of the military escalation in the Middle East on the Arab region.”.
Al-Dardari estimated the loss in the GDP of the countries of the region as a result of one month of war at about 6%.
Deeper effects
He added: "6% of GDP means the region lost about $186 billion from its economy in one month.".
He predicted that there would be deeper, longer and more difficult effects in the coming periods, noting that losses could reach more than $190 billion in this month alone.
He explained that the impact on GDP is very tangible in the Gulf region, and may reach $168 billion, and in the Levant region, about $30 billion.
