Riyadh's initiative: Delivering 33,000 prescriptions to homes via various methods

A unique initiative to enhance patient comfort

The Erada Complex for Mental Health in Riyadh, a member of the Third Riyadh Health Cluster, announced a significant achievement in digital pharmacy services, successfully delivering 33,244 prescriptions directly to patients' homes last year. This initiative was carried out in strategic partnership with Saudi Post's "Subul" service and falls under the Telemedicine Program, which aims to facilitate access to healthcare for beneficiaries in their places of residence. This represents 14% of the total prescriptions dispensed by the complex.

Background of digital transformation in the Saudi health sector

This step is part of the comprehensive transformation underway in the Saudi Arabian healthcare sector, in line with the goals of Vision 2030, which prioritizes improving quality of life and enhancing the efficiency of healthcare services. The Ministry of Health, through its health cluster system, has been working to adopt the latest technologies to develop a more sustainable and patient-centered healthcare model. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated the adoption of telemedicine solutions and home delivery services for medications, which have proven effective in ensuring continuity of care and reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.

The importance of the service and its impact on mental health care

The delivery of medications for mental health disorders and addiction is of particular importance, as it helps overcome many of the challenges patients may face. It provides an ideal solution for patients who have mobility difficulties or who live in remote areas, and it also offers significant support for privacy and helps reduce the social stigma that may be associated with visiting mental health centers. Facilitating access to medication is expected to improve patient adherence to their treatment plans, which is crucial for stabilizing their physical and mental health and supporting their ongoing recovery journey.

Comprehensive statistics for pharmaceutical services

The overall figures reflect the scale of the complex's efforts to provide high-quality pharmaceutical care, with a total of 238,164 prescriptions dispensed last year. These services were distributed across the following areas:

  • Outpatient Pharmacy: Dispensed 130,632 prescriptions.
  • Inpatient Pharmacy: Providing 44,454 prescriptions within the inpatient pharmacy services.
  • Emergency and First Aid Pharmacy: Dispensing 29,834 prescriptions for emergency cases requiring rapid intervention.

The Erada Complex affirmed that these strategic initiatives aim to take into account the health, social and economic conditions of patients, and to ensure the stability of their condition in line with the highest standards of modern medical care.
