The King Salman Relief Center distributes food baskets in Khan Younis, Gaza
As part of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ongoing humanitarian efforts, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center distributed 1,212 complete food baskets to the most vulnerable and displaced families in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip. This urgent assistance benefited 7,272 individuals, aiming to alleviate the severe food crisis affecting the residents of the Gaza Strip.
This aid comes as part of the Saudi popular campaign to provide relief to the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, and embodies the pivotal role the Kingdom plays in supporting humanitarian causes around the world. This initiative is particularly important given the tragic circumstances in the Strip, where international and UN organizations have repeatedly warned of worsening food insecurity and the brink of famine in some areas.
General context and humanitarian importance
Since its establishment in 2015, the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre has played a leading role in providing humanitarian and relief assistance in more than 90 countries worldwide, with a focus on areas affected by conflict and natural disasters. The Palestinian cause has historically been a priority for Saudi humanitarian work, with the Kingdom providing political, economic, and humanitarian support to the Palestinian people for decades.
These efforts come in the context of the current humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which the United Nations has described as catastrophic, with more than 85% of the population displaced and basic infrastructure destroyed, making access to aid vital for the survival of hundreds of thousands of civilians, especially women, children and the elderly.
The local and international impact of aid
Locally, these food baskets directly contribute to meeting the basic needs of families in Khan Younis, an area that has suffered widespread destruction and large-scale displacement. This aid provides a sense of hope and solidarity to residents facing harsh living conditions and helps strengthen their resilience in the face of daily challenges.
At the regional and international levels, the continued Saudi relief airlift underscores the Kingdom's commitment to its role as a key player in achieving regional stability through humanitarian action. This support also sends a clear message to the international community about the need for concerted efforts to ensure the safe and sustainable delivery of humanitarian aid throughout the Gaza Strip and to uphold the principles of international humanitarian law to protect civilians.
