
The foreign minister and his Canadian counterpart discuss strengthening relations and condemn Iran's attacks
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the positive and growing momentum in the bilateral relations, which span more than 50 years and are based on common interests in order to achieve economic growth And diversifying it, enhancing regional and international security, and laying the foundations for world peace.
Both sides noted the level of bilateral trade, as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries in 2024 amounted to more than (12) billion Saudi Riyals, and welcomed the formation of the Saudi-Canadian Business Council and its efforts in promoting economic cooperation between the two countries.
They also noted the progress made in the ongoing negotiations regarding the agreement on the promotion and protection of foreign investment between the two countries. They further welcomed the convening of the second Educational Partnership Forum between the two countries, which took place on October 11, 1447 AH (March 30, 2026).
Strengthening and developing relations
They discussed ways to strengthen and develop relations in all fields, particularly priority areas, including trade, investment, space, artificial intelligence, mining, tourism, education, and pharmaceuticals.
They agreed on the importance of deepening bilateral relations and enhancing the comprehensive partnership between the two countries. The two sides also exchanged views on regional challenges, condemning Iran's destabilizing behavior in the region, including its attacks on the Kingdom and the Gulf states, which threaten regional and international security.
They called on Iran to immediately cease its attacks and respect international law, international humanitarian law, and the principles of good neighborliness.
They stressed the need for Iran to comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026) and to stop supporting, funding, and arming its affiliated militias in Arab countries, which undermines regional and international peace and security.
Enhancing maritime security
The Canadian Foreign Minister expressed her country's solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its appreciation for the assistance provided by the Kingdom in facilitating the return of Canadian citizens. She reaffirmed Canada's readiness to cooperate closely with the Kingdom to promote regional stability and protect civilians amidst the ongoing conflict affecting the Gulf and the Middle East.
Both sides agreed on the need for concerted international efforts to de-escalate tensions, enhance maritime and energy security, and protect critical infrastructure.
The Canadian Foreign Minister expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality, emphasizing her country's commitment to strengthening a robust and forward-looking partnership with the Kingdom.
