Ports launch maritime logistics services for Arabian Gulf ships
A strategic initiative to support navigation in the Arabian Gulf
In a move reflecting the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s commitment to developing its maritime transport sector, the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) launched a comprehensive logistics initiative aimed at leveraging the full potential of the Eastern Province’s ports. This initiative seeks to provide integrated and direct services that meet the needs of shipping lines operating in the Arabian Gulf around the clock. This strategic step reinforces the Kingdom’s position as a global logistics hub connecting the three continents, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy and Saudi Vision 2030.
Historical context and strategic importance
Historically, the Arabian Gulf has been one of the most important waterways for global trade, through which a significant proportion of energy supplies and commercial goods pass. With the increasing challenges facing global supply chains today, the importance of Saudi ports in the Eastern Province, such as King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, is highlighted as crucial safeguards ensuring the continued flow of trade. Providing highly efficient maritime logistics services in this vital region not only serves the local economy but also represents a cornerstone for the stability of international trade.
A comprehensive package of operational services
The General Authority of Ports revealed that the operational services package available under this initiative has been carefully designed to cover all the essential requirements of ships. These services include supplying ships with fresh and preserved foodstuffs, and providing necessary medicines and medical supplies to ensure the safety and health of the crews. In addition, the initiative includes securing fuel and fresh water supplies efficiently and quickly, and providing all the necessary administrative and operational facilities for crew changes, a vital procedure for the continuity of maritime operations in accordance with approved international standards.
Digital transformation and beneficiary support
In its efforts to streamline procedures, Ports Authority announced it is launching an updated and comprehensive list of approved financing agents and fuel suppliers. This initiative aims to enable ship owners and operators to communicate directly and coordinate their logistical needs instantly and transparently. Furthermore, the Authority noted that its Knowledge and Customer Service Center continues to provide 24/7 technical support. The center receives inquiries and processes requests with high accuracy, enhancing response times and improving the quality of services provided to clients.
Expected impact on the economy and supply chains
In its concluding statement, the Authority affirmed that this vital initiative is part of its ongoing efforts to support regional and international maritime traffic. Locally, the initiative will contribute to creating new job opportunities and stimulating trade in the Eastern Province. Regionally and internationally, enhancing the reliability of supply chains and ensuring full preparedness to handle various exceptional circumstances will make Saudi ports the preferred destination for global shipping lines, thus solidifying the Kingdom's role as a leading economic and logistical power in the Middle East and the world.
