Bahrain supports Saudi and Emirati efforts to stabilize Yemen

The Kingdom of Bahrain reaffirmed its unwavering support for all efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to enhance security and stability in the Republic of Yemen. This reaffirmation comes within the framework of the shared destiny of the Gulf and joint Arab action, with Manama emphasizing the pivotal role played by the Saudi-led Arab Coalition in protecting the region from threats that destabilize security and in striving to find sustainable political solutions to the Yemeni crisis.

Historical context and ongoing efforts

Since the launch of the Arab Coalition's operations to support legitimacy in Yemen in 2015, Bahrain has been at the forefront of participating and supporting countries, believing that the stability of Yemen is an integral part of the stability of the Arabian Gulf region and the Middle East. The Saudi and Emirati efforts come within the context of a long history of diplomatic, military, and humanitarian action aimed at ending the Houthi coup and restoring state institutions, as well as unifying the Yemeni ranks through the Riyadh Agreement and the Yemeni-Yemeni consultations sponsored by the Gulf Cooperation Council.

The pillars of a political solution and the three references

In the context of its ongoing support, Bahrain consistently emphasizes the need to adhere to the three internationally recognized frameworks for resolving the Yemeni crisis: the Gulf Cooperation Council initiative and its implementation mechanism, the outcomes of the comprehensive national dialogue, and UN Security Council Resolution 2216. Manama believes that Saudi and Emirati efforts are not limited to the military aspect alone, but also focus significantly on creating a suitable political environment to bring the Yemeni parties together at the negotiating table and supporting the efforts of the UN envoy to Yemen to achieve a comprehensive ceasefire.

Strategic and humanitarian importance

The Saudi and Emirati efforts are of paramount strategic importance given Yemen's geographical location overlooking the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital artery for global trade and energy supplies. Therefore, Bahrain's support for these efforts serves Arab and international national security interests by ensuring the safety of maritime navigation. Furthermore, the humanitarian aspect is a cornerstone of the Gulf initiatives, with Saudi Arabia and the UAE providing billions of dollars to support the Yemeni economy and implement development and relief projects through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre and the Emirates Red Crescent. Bahrain appreciates this support and calls upon the international community to support it in alleviating the suffering of the brotherly Yemeni people.

In conclusion, the Bahraini position reflects the complete harmony in the foreign policies of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, and confirms that the security of the Gulf states is indivisible, and that the stability of Yemen is a top priority to ensure a safe and prosperous future for the entire region.
