Jeddah Port Customs successfully foils smuggling of 29 kg of cocaine

New security achievement: Jeddah port customs thwarts drug smugglers

In a security achievement reflecting the high vigilance of regulatory authorities in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority (ZATCA) at Jeddah Islamic Port Customs thwarted an attempt to smuggle a massive quantity of narcotics. The operation resulted in the seizure of 29.1 kilograms of cocaine, which had been professionally concealed inside a container arriving in the Kingdom through the port.

Details of the adjustment process and the techniques used

The official spokesperson for the Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority, Mr. Hamoud Al-Harbi, explained the details of this successful operation. He indicated that during routine customs procedures, a container was flagged as suspicious. Thanks to the use of the latest advanced security technologies and live evidence, the drugs, which had been meticulously concealed inside the container's air conditioning unit, were discovered. This discovery reflects the sophistication of smugglers' methods and, conversely, the technical and training superiority of Saudi customs officers.

General context: The Kingdom's efforts in combating drugs

This seizure comes within the framework of the comprehensive national campaign launched by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to combat drugs of all kinds. Historically, the Kingdom has long been a target for international smuggling gangs due to its economic strength and strategic geographic location. However, the Saudi authorities, represented by the Ministry of Interior, the Zakat Authority, and Customs, have demonstrated a remarkable ability to thwart these schemes, forming a strong barrier that protects Saudi society, especially its youth, from the devastating scourge of addiction.

The local and international impact of thwarting smuggling operations

Domestically, these preemptive strikes contribute to strengthening community security and protecting the national economy from the drain caused by the drug trade. Regionally and internationally, the success of Jeddah Port Customs in thwarting the smuggling of this quantity of cocaine sends a strong message to transnational organized crime networks. It confirms that Saudi ports of entry are subject to strict and impenetrable controls, thus reinforcing the Kingdom's position as an active international partner in combating organized crime and the global drug trade.

Court oversight and joint security coordination

The official spokesperson affirmed that the Authority, through all its land, sea, and air customs ports, is resolutely committed to tightening customs control over all imports and exports to the Kingdom. The Authority remains vigilant against all smuggling attempts, in line with one of the key pillars of its strategy: enhancing the security and protection of society. This is achieved by curbing attempts to smuggle such illicit substances and other contraband, through continuous and fruitful coordination and cooperation with its partners in the General Directorate of Narcotics Control.

A call to the community to participate in protecting the homeland

In closing, Al-Harbi issued an important appeal to all citizens and residents to actively contribute to combating smuggling in order to protect society and the national economy. He urged everyone to contact the Authority to report any suspicions via the dedicated security reporting number (1910), by email (1910@zatca.gov.sa), or through the international number (009661910). The Authority affirms that it receives reports related to smuggling crimes and violations of the provisions of the Unified Customs Law with complete confidentiality, and offers a substantial financial reward to the informant if the information in the report is proven to be true.
