Owner opens fire: Carrasco's absence from the season's awards is a disgrace
The president of Al-Shabab club, Abdulaziz Al-Malik, sparked controversy after criticizing the absence of Belgian Yannick Carrasco from the list of nominees for the best player of the season award, despite the remarkable performances he delivered with the team during the Saudi Roshan League competitions.
The owner wrote via his account on the “X” platform: “It is unfair that the list does not include Carrasco. In terms of numbers, he deserves to be among them. What are the criteria by which the selection is made?!” in reference to his surprise at the exclusion of the youth star from the final list of candidates.
The Al Shabab president’s comments come in light of Carrasco’s impressive performance this season, where he has played a prominent role in the team’s results through his goal-scoring and playmaking contributions, in addition to his consistent technical presence in major matches.
The owner's statements sparked widespread reaction among fans, amid demands for clarification of the mechanism and criteria for selecting candidates for individual awards in the Saudi League.
Cristiano Ronaldo and Ivan Toni top the list of nominees, along with Joao Felix, Julian Quiñones and Ruben Neves, in a season characterized by intense competition.
