Jeddah Municipality: Cleaning 52 million square meters and improving the urban landscape by 2025

In a move reflecting a strong commitment to achieving the goals of the Kingdom's Vision 2030 Quality of Life Program, the Jeddah Municipality its 2025 annual report, which included record-breaking figures in public cleanliness and environmental sanitation. The municipality announced the implementation of comprehensive cleaning operations covering more than 52 million square meters of vacant land, demonstrating the scale of efforts undertaken to maintain a healthy environment in the coastal city.
Details of the massive field operations
The report issued by the General Directorate of Cleaning Projects explained that field teams worked around the clock to cover the expanding urban area of Jeddah Governorate. These efforts included:
- Implementing mechanical and manual sweeping and litter collection operations on a road network exceeding 4.6 million kilometers .
- Lifting and transporting large-sized waste exceeding 1.28 million cubic meters from various neighborhoods and main and secondary roads.
- Cleaning and maintaining highways to ensure the safety of road users and their overall appearance.
Promoting public health and quality of services
The efforts were not limited to waste collection; they extended to the sterilization and disinfection of sanitation facilities. More than 521,000 waste containers , and approximately 20,600 others underwent maintenance and treatment. The washing operations also covered sidewalks and public facilities spanning over 24,000 kilometers, which directly contributes to reducing the spread of epidemics and insects, especially given Jeddah's geographical and climatic characteristics that necessitate meticulous attention to public hygiene.
Combating visual pollution and improving the urban landscape
The Jeddah Municipality places special emphasis on the "urban landscape improvement" initiative, a cornerstone of the Saudi urban development strategy. In this context, the municipality achieved the following accomplishments during 2025:
- More than 70,000 illegal billboards and advertising posters that were distorting the general appearance of the streets were removed.
- Over 24,000 square meters of random and defaced graffiti were erased and treated.
- Lifting and dealing with more than 18,000 neglected concrete barriers that impede movement and distort the general view.
