130 field personnel and 98 devices to enhance environmental sanitation in Jeddah during Hajj
announced The Jeddah Municipality the intensification of its field efforts in environmental sanitation, insect surveys, and public health pest control as part of its operational plans forthe 1447 AH Hajj season. This initiative falls within the framework of municipal services aimed at enhancing public health and raising preventative preparedness at sites associated with the movement of pilgrims.
The municipality explained that the General Directorate of Environmental Health's work included pilgrim reception and transit points at King Abdulaziz International Airport, including the Hajj Terminal and the Haramain High-Speed Railway station at the airport, as well as the train station in the Al-Sulaimaniyah district. It also covered sites housing pilgrims who violated Hajj regulations and instructions in the Al-Muntazah district and along the Huda Al-Sham Road.
The municipality clarified that the environmental sanitation plans were implemented according to a preventative methodology based on early detection and analysis of high-traffic areas. This was achieved through specialized field teams supported by modern equipment and technologies for insect surveys, contributing to increased monitoring efficiency and the identification of potential breeding sites for disease-carrying mosquitoes, in accordance with approved technical and health standards.
Specialized equipment and supplies
The Secretariat affirmed its support for its field operations with approximately 130 specialized technical and supervisory personnel, including field monitors, survey specialists, supervisors, pest control workers, and drivers. This support also encompassed the operation of nearly 98 diverse pieces of equipment for monitoring, surveying, and control, including sprayers, traps, and survey kits, as well as a field fleet of 18 operational and support vehicles. The aim was to enhance response times and improve the efficiency of environmental sanitation efforts in areas associated with pilgrim movement. The Secretariat
indicated that its integrated pest management approach relies on scientific methods based on studying the behavior of vector-borne insects and their breeding sites. It employs diverse field interventions using specialized equipment and tools, contributing to reducing environmental pollution and minimizing disease transmission, while also enhancing the effectiveness of preventative monitoring in densely populated areas.
Intensify field visits
Regarding the locations where pilgrims are being housed in violation of Hajj regulations and instructions, the Secretariat explained that it has activated intensive field plans that include equipping reconnaissance and monitoring teams and distributing equipment and technical devices to support preventive follow-up efforts. The focus is on quickly addressing potential issues and intensifying field patrols in the vicinity of these accommodation sites.
The Secretariat emphasized that these efforts are part of its integrated plans to raise the level of public health and improve the urban environment during the Hajj season. This is achieved by utilizing human and technological resources to enhance the quality of preventive services and contribute to providing a healthy and safe environment for pilgrims, residents, and visitors of Jeddah.
