Guterres: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre is a global model of generosity

United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres praised the leading role played by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the field of international humanitarian work, describing the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center as “a shining example of generosity and efficiency.” This came during his visit to the center’s headquarters in Riyadh, where he met with His Excellency Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Rabeeah, Advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the Center.

A firm commitment despite global challenges

In press statements following the meeting, Guterres affirmed that the Kingdom has maintained its unwavering commitment to providing humanitarian aid to those in need around the world, at a time when international support is witnessing a significant decline despite the increasing number of crises. He noted that this commitment reflects the noble humanitarian values upheld by the Kingdom, emphasizing that the center provides exceptional services characterized by quality and rapid response, making it an indispensable partner for the international community.

Strategic partnership and long history

The UN Secretary-General recalled the founding of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre, noting that he witnessed its launch during his tenure as High Commissioner for Refugees. He explained that the relationship between the Centre and UN agencies is not a recent development, but rather a deep strategic partnership that has resulted in a broad network of field cooperation serving millions of people in need. He added that the Centre has successfully built bridges of trust and professionalism with various UN organizations, thus enhancing the effectiveness of joint humanitarian efforts.

Humanitarian fingerprints in conflict zones

Guterres addressed the tangible impact of the center's projects in numerous countries suffering from acute crises, specifically mentioning Yemen, Somalia, and Syria. He emphasized that Saudi aid has not been limited to financial support, but has also included the implementation of high-quality development and relief programs aimed at alleviating the suffering of people and providing them with the means for a dignified life. This Saudi role reinforces the Kingdom's position as one of the world's largest donors of humanitarian and development aid, according to international indicators.

A future vision for relief work

This international recognition underscores the Kingdom's success in institutionalizing humanitarian work through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center, established in 2015 under the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, to serve as the sole umbrella organization for coordinating foreign aid. In line with the Kingdom's Vision 2030, the Center strives to deliver humanitarian aid according to international standards, free from any political or ethnic biases, making it a beacon of hope during the darkest times facing the region and the world.
