Al-Lahaba Municipality removes 2,303 tons of waste | Improving the urban landscape
A remarkable environmental achievement at the Al-Lahabah Center
In a move reflecting its ongoing commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals and improving quality of life, the Al-Lahabah Municipality's intensive field campaigns over the past three months have resulted in the removal of more than 2,303 tons of waste and debris from various locations. These significant efforts are part of a comprehensive operational plan aimed at enhancing environmental sanitation and improving the urban landscape in its districts and neighborhoods.
General context and connection to the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These field projects fall under the umbrella of the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing's comprehensive national initiatives, specifically the Quality of Life Program, a key component of Saudi Arabia's Vision 2030. These initiatives aim to eliminate visual pollution and provide a healthy and clean urban environment. Al-Lahabah, as a vital center in the Eastern Province, is an integral part of this regional strategy, spearheaded by the Eastern Province Municipality, to ensure the sustainability of environmental resources and protect the public health of citizens and residents.
Details of field campaigns and achieved figures
In detailing this achievement, the Mayor of Al-Lahabah, Engineer Fawaz Al-Amoudi, explained that the exceptional campaigns targeted a wide and carefully planned geographical area, encompassing main streets, densely populated residential neighborhoods, and public parks that serve as recreational spaces for residents. Engineer Al-Amoudi indicated that these intensive efforts extended to cover open areas within the city and its surrounding districts, all according to a rigorous daily operational plan designed to address all forms of visual pollution.
Efforts of field teams in waste management
The mayor revealed the scale of the work completed, stating that field teams had successfully removed over 2,285 tons of accumulated household and solid waste with high professionalism. The work wasn't limited to daily waste; it also resulted in the removal of approximately 18 tons of rubble and debris of unknown origin. In addition, vacant lots were cleaned and leveled to prevent them from becoming illegal dumpsites in the future. He noted that the comprehensive plan included the continuation of regular maintenance of waste containers, and their scheduled emptying and cleaning to ensure the highest levels of environmental sanitation.
Expected impact and importance of community partnership
The anticipated impact of these campaigns extends beyond the city's aesthetic appeal, reaching profound health and environmental dimensions. Removing this enormous volume of waste directly contributes to curbing the spread of epidemics and insects, and raises the level of public health locally. Regionally, it enhances the Eastern Province's reputation as an attractive and healthy environment. In closing, Engineer Al-Amoudi affirmed the commitment of the inspection teams to implementing their plan aimed at improving the urban environment without any leniency in monitoring and addressing any emerging visual pollution. He called upon all members of the community to strengthen active partnership by committing to disposing of waste in designated areas and promptly reporting any environmental violations through the unified reporting center (940), to ensure a healthy and safe environment for everyone.
