
Using smart technologies, King Abdullah Medical City saves 9 pilgrims within 72 hours
The Heart Center at King Abdullah Medical City, a member of the Makkah Health Cluster, successfully saved the lives of nine pilgrims of various nationalities (Malaysia, the Philippines, Turkey, Pakistan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh) in less than 72 hours.
These specialized procedures are part of the city's strategic plans to enhance advanced specialized care for pilgrims during the Hajj season, and included surgeries open-heart surgeries, and minimally invasive interventional catheterizations.
Receiving various health cases
King Abdullah Medical City explained that the patients were admitted suffering from acute myocardial infarctions and complex blockages in the coronary arteries, in addition to weakened heart muscle and complications affecting blood circulation.
The city indicated that the medical interventions were performed according to the latest international protocols; a number of patients underwent advanced robotic surgeries performed through small incisions, which contributes to reducing pain and accelerating recovery, enabling them to complete their religious rites.
Using smart technologies in treatment
King Abdullah Medical City revealed the implementation of smart remote follow-up technologies for recovered patients after their discharge, using smartwatches linked to virtual care services.
The city stated that this technology allows for continuous monitoring of vital signs and heart rate, contributing to the early detection of any health changes and enhancing the safety of pilgrims during their recovery and performance of their rituals.
King Abdullah Medical City emphasized that the integration of medical expertise and smart technologies enhances the quality of specialized services provided to pilgrims.
The city explained that these successes solidify the Heart Center's position as one of the national centers of excellence in treating critical cases and performing robotic surgeries, aligning with the objectives of the Health Sector Transformation Program and the Kingdom's Vision 2030.
