Al-Ahsa: Protecting lives on the roads is a top priority
His Royal Highness Prince Saud bin Talal bin Badr, Governor of Al-Ahsa, chaired a meeting of the Governorate's Traffic Safety Committee at the Governorate headquarters on Tuesday. During the meeting, which was attended by committee members and officials from relevant government agencies, the latest developments and plans aimed at improving road safety in Al-Ahsa were reviewed. His Highness emphasized that protecting lives and property is a top priority, reflecting the wise leadership's concern for the quality of life of citizens and residents.
Review of performance indicators and key field efforts
During the meeting, His Highness the Governor of Al-Ahsa reviewed performance reports, indicators, and traffic safety statistics for 2025, as well as indicators for the first quarter of 2026. The meeting also reviewed the committee's most prominent efforts and activities since the beginning of the year, which included conducting intensive inspection campaigns on vehicle tires in cooperation with relevant authorities. These campaigns resulted in the confiscation and destruction of more than 750 tires that did not conform to approved specifications and standards, posing a significant threat to the safety of road users. The committee also discussed reports of serious accidents that occurred in the governorate, including a detailed analysis of their locations, the main causes, and ways to address them to reduce their recurrence.
Road safety: A key pillar of the Kingdom's Vision 2030
These intensive efforts in Al-Ahsa Governorate are an integral part of the National Traffic Safety Strategy, which stems from the objectives of the Kingdom's Vision 2030. The Vision aims to improve the quality of life in Saudi cities, and reducing road accident and fatality rates is one of the most important indicators for measuring this improvement. Through specialized committees at all levels, the Kingdom is working to adopt global best practices in traffic engineering, automated enforcement, and community awareness, with the goal of achieving the highest safety standards across the country's extensive road network.
Directives to intensify automated monitoring and address black spots
His Highness the Governor of Al-Ahsa emphasized the importance of expanding automated monitoring systems on the main and vital roads in the governorate, particularly at "black spots" that frequently witness serious accidents. He directed that engineering and enforcement solutions be expedited at accident sites, especially on highways, to enhance response efficiency and improve safety. Prince Saud bin Talal stressed the importance of continuous integration and coordination among all security and service agencies to address critical areas and improve traffic discipline. He noted that prevention begins with awareness campaigns and the firm application of traffic regulations, along with the necessity of measuring results through clear performance indicators that contribute to continuous improvement of the system.
Strategic importance for promoting sustainable development
Improving traffic safety in Al-Ahsa not only protects lives but also has significant economic and social implications. Reducing accidents alleviates the burden on the healthcare sector and minimizes financial losses. Furthermore, it enhances traffic flow, a vital artery for the local economy in a province experiencing rapid population and economic growth. These efforts are supported by the direct attention and commitment of His Royal Highness the Prince of the Eastern Province and his Deputy, who continuously monitor and improve the traffic safety system to contribute to preserving lives and property and achieving sustainable development.
