A dangerous precedent: Al Ahly of Egypt files a complaint against referee Wafa with the Disciplinary Committee
Al Ahly SC of Egypt continued its escalation against referee Mahmoud Wafa, who officiated its match against Ceramica Cleopatra last Tuesday in the Premier League, which ended in a 1-1 draw.
Complaint to the Disciplinary Committee
The club said in a statement: “Al-Ahly submitted a complaint this morning – defending the rights of its players Mohamed El Shenawy, Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet and Hussein El Shahat – to the Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Egyptian Football Association against referee Mahmoud Wafa, who officiated the Al-Ahly and Ceramica match in the league championship, which was held at the Arab Contractors Stadium the day before yesterday.”.
serious violations
The complaint stated that the referee – in a dangerous precedent – directed inappropriate words towards Al-Ahly captain Mohamed El-Shenawy, as well as insults towards player Hussein El-Shahat. In addition, he “pushed” player Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet, accompanied by words that carried insults towards one of the captains of the Egyptian national team. He also warned the football director Walid Salah El-Din and goalkeeper Mostafa Shobeir without justification.
Demands to freeze the decisions and conduct an urgent investigation
Al-Ahly requested in its complaint “freezing all arbitrary decisions taken by the referee against Al-Ahly players after the match, opening an urgent investigation into the aforementioned incidents, applying the disciplinary rules stipulated in Articles (18) and (20) of the Disciplinary Regulations to the referee of the match against whom the complaint was filed, and imposing the legally prescribed penalties.”.
