The Saudi Foreign Minister praised Lebanon's efforts to extend its sovereignty and confine weapons
In the context of strengthening joint Arab action and coordinating diplomatic positions, His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the Saudi Minister of Foreign Affairs, met today with the Prime Minister of the Lebanese Republic, Nawaf Salam, on the sidelines of the 2026 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos, Switzerland. This meeting underscores the deep fraternal ties between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Lebanese Republic, and the Saudi leadership's continued commitment to Lebanon's stability and prosperity.
During the meeting, a comprehensive review of bilateral relations and ways to develop them was conducted, in addition to discussing aspects of joint cooperation in various political and economic fields. The discussions focused on current developments in Lebanon, with His Highness the Foreign Minister reaffirming the Kingdom's firm and unwavering support for the Lebanese state and its national institutions. In this context, Prince Faisal bin Farhan commended the Lebanese government's tireless efforts to extend its full sovereignty over all Lebanese territory and its serious work to ensure that weapons are solely in the hands of the state and its legitimate institutions, which is a fundamental pillar for building a strong and stable state.
These statements are of paramount importance given the historical and political context of relations between the two countries. Saudi Arabia has been, and remains, the foremost supporter of Lebanon's stability, from its sponsorship of the Taif Agreement, which ended the civil war and established the foundations of civil peace, to its continued support for the Lebanese economy through various crises. The emphasis on "the state's monopoly on the use of force" underscores the principle of sovereignty, which is a fundamental prerequisite for Lebanon's political and economic recovery and its effective reintegration into the Arab and international community.
The two sides also discussed the reform steps taken by the Lebanese government and its efforts to preserve the country's resources and its territorial integrity. These reforms are seen as essential for restoring international confidence and attracting investment, as the Kingdom consistently affirms that structural reforms are the optimal path for the Lebanese economy to recover and overcome current challenges. Lebanon's stability is not only a domestic interest but also a necessity for regional security, as a strong and unified Lebanese state contributes to stability in the Middle East as a whole.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the two sides affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation in order to serve their common interests.
